Idea for extra slot in 3rd gen dash..?

Does anybody have an idea for what could be put/installed in there? Im talking about how its a double din (I think) and theres an extra "cubby hole" thing that nothing I have fits into. Any ideas????

I dont believe a monitor would help because its only about a 1 DIN size. Mayne at most an inch and a half high, CD player wide, and not deep enough for a cd case. Hope that helps?
 
When i was in japan, my wife had a 3rd gen 4runner.... in japan, they put seperate cassette decks and seperate radio/cd players for some reason.. that is why they have small cubby holes in the dash... since in the states, they just put all in one radios...
 
Did you remove the OEM double din radio and replace it with a 1 din unit? that would be why you have the space that is just a cheap after maket way of filling the empty space. It really serves no purpose. You could mount cd changer controls or sat. radio unit in the hole. If you look around they make a non slot, filler for the space it will be flush instead of having the little tray there.
 
I dont have a cd changer, just a normal cd player, and no satelitte radio :( That would be a good idea if i did though! Any other ideas?.........
 
Wow thanks, thats actually a very good idea! But, I dont have a dvd player or anything like that, But it says it offers crisp highs and clear sound quality, would it still be good for cd playback?
 
i think that it should function the same as tweeters and give you those high notes up front. it'll be best if you had subs in the rear hitting the low notes too. you'll get a very nice sound. i was thinking of adding that but the stock tweeters are holding up pretty well. maybe i will when i get a bigger system.

One of the reasons I have not replaced my OEM head unit. is due to having that extra space. After seeing this post I may replace with a cd XM ready head unit and add the center speaker.
 
another idea i had was to cut a piece of plexiglass, spray it all black leaving clear lettering that said "TOYOTA" or something that would be backlit by a neon light that i would stick inside the tray and put the plexiglass over it.
 
That Clarion speaker is 1/2 DIN. The 3rd gen 4runner has 2 DIN slots, where the stock radio takes up 1 DIN. If you got that speaker you would have to have some kind of mounting flange to allow it to fill a full DIN slot.
 
Open spot in 3rd Gen dash, what to do there?

Well I posted this in the audio forum, but I wanted to get other responses then audio stuff. Well my cd player is single DIN so of course that left that single din open "cubby hole" in my dash. I hate it. nothing fits there! What could I use it for?!
 
If you look at the picture it does like like it may have a little tixture to it but it should look fine installed. I already ordered mine!!!
