Ideas on exhaust tip anyone?

So my friend tells me that after installing the cherrybomb vortex, my 4runner sounds like an old car, not clean. He suggested I change the tip, which currently looks:

I got my 4runner used, and the previous owner had this on. It's by Pilot Automotive.
I was wondering what people's exhaust tips look like.

Edit: So it turns out, it's probably the engine that makes this sound. Because my friend has a TRD exhaust on his 2005 Solara, and its sounds pretty clean, but not as loud.

That tip is really ugly in my opinion. I would just go to a muffler shop and pick one out and have them weld it on. At least that's what I did. :)

Thanks for you honest opinion. I dislike it too, but haven't really considered changing it for a long time. I've only began to gain an interest in modding about half a year ago.

Although, it holds pretty well. Haven't fallen off, and not noticeable until get close and bend over to peek.
 
yours looks like a flame thrower. Normally when you have an exhaust or muffler installed, they throw in a tip. I had my cat and muffler along with my piping and they asked what tip i wanted and welded it on coming straight out the back

do you have any scraping problems with it coming out the back? Or is it a street queen?
 
No problems. We had to weld it with a spacer in place between the tip and the bumper to make sure it was not going to be banging metal on metal with every bump I hit. But I like it. I'll take a pic tomorrow so you can see. It's not rediculous but has a slightly agressive look while keeping things tasteful

I'm definitely interested in seeing a pic. This is something I've considered doing. I would only get an exhaust tip if I could get one like the pic you posted and have it welded on so it comes straight out the back.
 
In my opinion if your going to a rear exit dual is the only way to go. I think just one pipe might look strange.

If your going with just one pipe I would stick to a side exit.
 
i had a guy i know weld up a new exhaust for me last week and i choose no tips for main reason pipe is easier to touch up and paint silver then scratchin up tips off road. but the first one is a no go. the long weld on one would look good. i went with a magnaflow muffler and duals out the back on the same angle as the factory side,one on each side. ill get a pic tomorrow.
 
pics as promised. This tip has been on for about 3 or so years with no maintenance or anything, i don't wax it or really touch it at all. So id say it has held up pretty well.

When I do my cat back muffler upgrade I wanted to go straight out the back but under the rear bumper is too prime to be crunched off road so I'll be sticking with the side exit with a nice tip.
