Ideas, Recommendations?

So heres the story, This runner has over 300k miles on it and a blown head gasket and now has a bunch of missing parts due to some parting out. And now im just trying to make plans for the future for it.

So far the idea I want to do with it is
rebuild the motor
supercharge it and 7th injector
Data 60 front and rear
Dual cases
Caged
3 link front
4 link rear
Thinking about chopping rear and having a bed.
bobbed front and possibly rear.
front and rear lockers
on board air

Any Ideas or Input feel free to post, if you do post, please post a pic, thread you found it, etc. This is going to be a long time project that im not looking to get done for awhile, but just looking at ideas for now.

If that's the route you wanna go, just build a buggy and get it over with already. Use the 4Runner frame and front clip if you want it to stay a "4Runner", but axe the rest. Including the motor.

Lol. So much more work to fab for a buggy i feel like.... I guess i am wanting it to be more of an extremely capable 4runner. More so of a mix of Mossyrocks from Pirate4x4 and Downpours rig from here. As well as other rigs ive seen. But still wanna keep it a 4runner essentially.

I'd replace the motor, not rebuild. A 300k motor with blown head gasket and that's been parted out will be messy to piece together and might have more issues then you are aware of. You won't know until you fire it up AFTER doing all that work.

Also, supercharging a motor with known head issues is not the best idea.

I am the one that has been doing the part out. So i know exactly what is all missing. Nothing from the motor... But i do have a full shop at my disposal. So it would make sense to rebuild and have everything new than just buying a used one with lower miles...

Gotcha, I had the impression that you just purchased a parted-out 4Runner.

I'd still be wary about putting a supercharger on it unless those heads are in perfect condition. The supercharger adds more heat, stresses the cooling system as well as the transmission.

If you do rebuild it, just be sure to get the heads checked to make sure there's no damage before thinking about a supercharger. That's if you can get one anyway, almost all dealers are out of stock since it was discontinued.

Right. I am not too worried about the parts or the rebuild. I have plenty of resources and ways around everything with getting it built. I guess more so of things on your runners you all liked, built, modified, etc is what i have been looking for. When rebuilt everything is going to be gone through really well to make sure that its not going to break on me or anything. its all going to be machined, etc.

You're talking more work to do all that and keep it a full body rig. Chop it up and things get lots easier.

You think? I wouldnt think so since with a buggy i would have to go through and build the body, etc. rather than have the body already and just modify it how im wanting it.

Not even close. Almost zero difference between building a cage and building a buggy chassis in terms of material and effort required, except when you take a full body 4Runner and build an exo and custom suspension you have to work around body panels and glass, you have to work around the gas tank, everything is compromised. Alternatively, take the body off and strip the frame down, build your chassis and suspension on the bare frame, then put the firewall/front clip back on. You end up with a smaller, sturdier, lighter vehicle, better performing suspension, stronger cage, and with the frame and front clip in place it's still a titled 4Runner that you could even make street legal if you wanted to.

He could rebuild that motor to be stronger than a stock motor & should have no problems handling a S/C.

Nice! I rebuilt my 3RZ 10,000 miles ago & the S/C will go on in a few weeks!
I assume you have the 5VZ 6cyl. I haven't seen much in performance parts for that motor but LC Engineering has tons of goodie's for the 3RZ from cranks to hi-performance crate motors.

yea, money & time is always an issue for me. I had her bored out .030 & ordered a standard rebuild kit to be put in her. I wish I could have gone with better parts internally but I had to do the heads, rear tailgate, hood etc, money was tight for extra performance goodies.

Haha yup I know that feeling... Plus on top of that I know this one is going to be a few year project... Maybe once in done with school things will go faster on it
