Idiot backed into us this morning.

My wife pulled into the gas station this morning and the guy at the pump in front of apparently didn't see us pull in behind him. He also didn't bother to look when he started backing up. Wife laid on the horn but it was too late. All I could think is that what if it had been a my wife or kid behind him instead of my 4Runner? He'd have surely run them over.

It was an older Chevy Blazer with a tire on the back. I couldn't really find any damage other than a couple of scuff marks, letters from the tire, and possibly some cracks in the paint near the grill. Its really hard to tell right now with all the salt and grime on the truck Nothing was broken as far as I could see, even though we heard some crunching.

Does anyone know if there would there be anything behind the bumper/grill area that could have been damaged? I got his insurance info after giving him a severe tongue lashing, so if I need to take it to the body shop and have them check, he can pay for it.


Edit - Probably should mention that my 4runner is a 2012 Limited.

Take it to the shop. At the very least the bumper probably needs to be refinished and reset.

I had a woman knock over a motorcycle I owned I once. I inspected the damage and let her cut me a check on the spot, big mistake; months later when I saw I missed the radiator was warped.

I was at a clients house and was coming out to my truck when I noticed the neighbor from across the road backing at a odd angle. Next thing I know crunch.... Dented the bumper cap. Was only worth $250

Thanks, all. We went ahead and had a body shop look at it. Only $700 damage, but we did find a crack in the bumper plastic and some cracks in the paint.

Bumpers are stupid expensive.
Not to mention; why the hell do they even call them bumpers anymore if you cant bump stuff with them?
I came back out to my car once to find all the paint scraped off one corner of my steel bumper. Made me laugh, but kind of sad I didnt get to see the idiot who definitely destroyed one of their fenders because they suck at parking. Two seconds with a rattle can and I was back in business.

cause in reality we have bumper covers. the actual bumper has morphed into a metal bar for weight savings covered by a stupid crazy $$$ cover compared to the old days steel/chrome bumpers.

yeah, me too. I backed into a garage a few months ago and cracked the bumper cover. $1000. I have been praying someone will smack the other side so their insurance will cover it! No such luck, though
