Idiots - Hole in gas tank

Well.....after a nice kayaking ride today, I was pulling my boat out of the river and my friend noticed a truck pull away quickly that was parked by mine (we were the only one's on the river). When we got to my car, the gas door was open and the cap was off.....I thought, great....they were trying to steal my gas. When I started the car, several lights went off (ABS, traction control, brake), but the car ran fine for about a mile and I needed to get back to cell coverage....then the buzz sound started and the power brakes went out. I pulled over and got under the car, it was leaking gas out of the bottom of the tank. Apparently that was the best way to steal my gas was to put a hole in the bottom of the tank. The gas was leaking slowing, I couldn't imagine how long it would take to get a gallon. So the 100 mile tow ride was great, thanks rural Indiana for making my kayak ride so memorable.

Well, the upside is at least they didn't wait for you to get to the truck and start playing banjo music.....

but seriously, too friggin bad man, just unbelievable....the crap people do to others still never ceases to amaze me...:bash:

I know if you leave the cap off you can get the 'check engine' light but why all the rest? What is with your 'power brakes' going out?!? Was the 4R still running at that time or did it stall from the lack of fuel. If it stalled obvious why the brakes went out, but not if it was still running. Are you sure they did not damage anything else?

That's classy... I guess someone watched a view to many end-of-the-world videos and added a screwdriver to their "emergency kit".

Where were you kayaking? I go to Wabash every so often.. usually other people around there.

Sounds like it was a bit of an opportunistic event... probably some teenage idiots trucking around and deciding that your gas tank was cheaper than the gas station.

Any ID on the perps? or the truck? or will you be paying for this over the next 20 years through your increased insurance rates?

Okki

Well I just got back from the dealership......they cut one of the brake lines.

I'm pissed, because this whole time, I thought there were only people in a 30 mile radius that wanted to kill me......not a 100 mile radius.

Scum bags probably thought is was a gas line.

THIS... just means they were even bigger idiots than already previously indicated.

Must have gone something like this:

JB: "hey Cleatus.. open the tank and suck/siphon some gas for me.."
C: "nah.. I still have moonshine after-taste I'm savoring... just cut the line Jim-Bob.. "
JB: "there's a lot of lines here Cleatus.. which one is the gas?"
C: "just cut one and taste it.."
JB.."duuuh... ok... nah.. this one ain't it; want me to try another one?"
C: "Just take this here jug and stick a screwdriver in the tank"
JB: "this is coming out slower than piss from a garden snake Cleatus."
C: "hurry up Jim-Bob.. those townies are coming back.. I can see them paddlin' up stream. let me open the gas cap to it runs faster."
JB: "hell screw that. I'm running faster than a hog with it's ass on fire. and you remember from last night how quickly those run!."

And then you found your vehicle one tow truck ride short on Hoosier hospitality...

Okki

That's funny.......and I'm sure it's right on. We were kayaking the Blue River at Milltown....I went on the Wabash last year, but around the New Harmony area,....I just don't have great rivers to go within a couple hours.

I forgot to mention, because of the production issues in Japan, I'm told.....zero new tanks are available in the US. They said about 2 weeks and the cost is $700+ - I felt like that was a flat out bargain. The tank is really nice looking, much nicer than other plastic items I have, like the kayak I used earlier for 14 miles.... and it's even smaller and lighter than the kayak....for an added bonus.

Maybe I should go back and set it up for bait in the same area......make camp and just wait.

Hopefully in your state a screwdriver is considered a lethal weapon- I can't believe that happened, absolutely terrible.
