Idling Noise

So I pull into Dunkin' Donuts this morning and the little Women goes in to get her donut and joe. While she is in line I noticed the windows could use a quick wipe due to streaks. So I get out and start wiping the windshield and I notice the engine is making an odd amount of noise (borderline tapping noise reflecting off the store front glass). I think to myself maybe it

This story would have been entirely different if you had the 4.0L V6. The cop would've been wondering what all of the tapping noise was, and he would've been relieved to discover that it was coming from the 4Runner parked next to him....:upset:

Us V6 owners definitely have to live with this sound unfortunately. This engine started out whisper quiet too. WHAT HAPPENED!!!!! I really could care less though because the inside is whisper quiet and at least I know my car is running when it is turned on .

My V6 is not that loud, IMO. It is louder than the V8, but not unacceptable. The only time it's been too loud for me was when the serpentine belt needed to be changed -- the belt was squealing.

The difference is belt and chain. The noise coming from the 4Runner V6 is completely different from that Dodge. If you want a nasty idle noise you should hear the 3.4 V6 with the TRD blower, but it does have that sweet whine when you're in it!
