If Toyota.....

I'm sure if they offered a 5 speed those who'd want it would buy one regardless if they still offered auto trannys but I doubt the manual will be offered period in the 5th gens unfortunatly.

Living in LA I'm more than happy to no longer have a manual transmission...plus it makes off-roading a lot more complicated. I admit, I've gotten spoiled!

What I would love for Toyota to make is a hybrid that is capable of full 4xing & towing! They would have to work out some xfer case issues I'm sure. But it seems they could use a V-6 engine with only 3 cyl operating + electric for highway and then give the driver the option of towing or going off-road via a selectable switch for the full V-6 power and no electric AND LOW RANGE! I know there is some engineering to be done...but that would definately make me very happy! and of course I would want an automatic ;):

I would love to have a vehicle capable of all the truck features I love and use, while still giving providing increased fuel efficiency. Obviously 4R's are big and heavy but heck...if I go from 13mpg (my average...I have a modded V8 full-time 4x) to 20.... that would save me about 1200 bucks a year on fuel (@4bucks)...give or take.

If you put the auto in 1st from a light it will stay in 1st until you shift it. Same with 2nd and 3rd and 4th.

You can down shift the auto as well, albeit with a safety mechinism. If the rpms are too high it will wait until they've dropped a bit and then shift down to prevent redlining.

I engine brake all the time and occasionally manually shift the auto up from lights if I want more control (towing or speeding).

So I don't agree with the "put it in what gear you want instead of drive" arguement in most cases. I like the manuals in little sports cars, but don't really care much in trucks.

Also, hope they put a V-10 or V-12 engine in there.

Yeah, lets hope that you stop this postwhoring and be more productive in this forum...and please stop with these dumb threads/posts.

I just wish Toyota would develop more "factory mods" for the 'Runner. Like the Taco has. There are lots of 4Runner owners out there they could sell to. If not Toyota branded stuff, then maybe a few "Official Supplier of..." type deals. Hell I was holding my breath that there might be a "TRD Off Road Edition" 4Runner for current gen before end of life. Looks like that won't happen. I still LOVE my baby tho! :p

Not having a manual transmission as an available option is the only reason keeping me from buying a 4th Gen. If they made it available with a 6spd manual, then I'd be all over it. I just personally prefer manual over auto. They would never make it with no automatics though. I highly doubt they would make it come with manual, unfortunately. Also, I personally dislike the FJ Cruiser so that's out of the question for me, so I'm still looking for a 1999 or 2000 4Runner.

Volks V-10 engine.

Sheeesh!!! Sorry, i can't be productive. (*yawn) It's not like i know a lot about 4Runners. I barely just got mine. I came in here to seek info, stir up some questions/ideas and stuff. So I was just throwing some questions/concerns/subjects out there. Yeah, i'm guilty as-charged! If YOU and other peeps percept that way. Hope i'm not the only one.

And "Thanks" for the warning in this type of way. You could've just pm'd me. But it's alright. Some moderators do warn/tell ppl so others can see. No biggy! I'm cool. So GO AHEAD, press that button and ban me because i prolly would come up with more dumb questions/threads/posts. Again, ban me! I will have no heartfeelings. Peace out!

Actually, if you bothered to READ your other 10 million posts, then you would have seen that I (and others) have dropped hints at your actions. The problem is that you posts these "questions/concerns/etc." seemingly for the sake of posting because you clearly do not check back on them nor answer questions regarding what you posted.

BTW, i am just a regular member...if you want to complain to the mods/admins, then go ahead.

I highly doubt that we will be seeing this. My understanding is that off roading would be far too strenuous for the current Toyota hybrid technology, it wouldn't stand up well to the dirt/mud/water and pure abuse that frequently goes hand in hand with off roading.

If someone wants an SUV that is hybrid you have the Highlander but as for an off hybrid road capable, ready to tow SUV it looks like you are out of luck. They just don't go hand-in-hand very well.

That being said, I bet we will see engines that at very least will have similar performance, but with better milage. I would also love the 5.7 V8 out of the LC/Tundra in a 4runner!
