I'm about to try to find a dealer to order a 2020 MGM TRD ORP w/ KDSS w/o Sunroof and no other options. A bit of a Unicorn but it does exist I am told. As soon as I talk to a dealer Internet Sales guy about ordering I get ghosted. Trying to figure out what I am doing wrong.

edited to add that I spoke with Toyota Jeff in Raleigh who has a YouTube channel and he could order the vehicle for me I'm just hoping to avoid having to travel that far. Bottom line is I know it's possible I'm just not sure how best to approach local dealers with the request because so far my efforts have gotten me nowhere

also edited to add I am using the Buyatoyota Website which shows vehicles in the Southeast which match criteria but I am not sure how to expand the radius of my search. I think it's using cookies for my zip code so maybe I can play around with that.

I'm completely guessing here, but none of their models came without a sunroof -they all have them. As someone explained to me earlier, once at port, that's when all of the options specific to certain models are installed (suspension, wheels, etc). So, it sounds like the body is painted at the factory which is where it's also assembled on the frame.

So, to interrupt that manufacturing process while in Japan, I don't think would be possible since no such body part (roof) exists without a sunroof. That was a thing back in the days of the 2nd gens that I know of (some models had sunroofs and some didn't) but not on the 5th gens. It'd be like asking for a model with no rear quarter windows i.e. that body part just doesn't exist for them to do.

I could be wrong and, again, I'm completely guessing.

what? They definitely make 4runners without sunroofs.

although if you want a Premium with no sunroof and no options, it sounds like you dont want a Premium.

Why would you say that? There are a lot of upgrades with the premium trim level that I do want. Also moonroof and KDSS are completely independent of the trim level that you get.

The KDSS is, the moonroof is not. The moonroof is part of the premium package. That's why it's nearly impossible to get a Premium without one.

Thanks actually yes they do come without sunroofs in all trim levels it's just not very common and it's even less common for one of those without a sunroof to have a fairly expensive option like kdss added to it. Both of those are the factory rather than the port so you would have to order it from the factory. There are people in this forum that have bought one with kdss without a sunroof but I'm not sure if they ordered them or not.

Unless you have as head clearance problem, the sun roof is a nice addition. Sometimes there is too much sun and heat, but I had ceramic tint added to mine and the heat is not a problem. I like the interior to have more light inside. Maybe get the other options, but take a sun roof if you have to.

Back in July I bought a 2019 ORP from a local dealer by going through Edmunds.com. I was wanting KDSS on one but they said they were hard to find and really were only interested in selling me what they had on the lot. I bought an ORP in Barcelona Red and got the Edmunds price plus a couple of other little rebate things they had going on and I am happy with it but kinda wondered if I should have been more persistent in looking for one with KDSS. By the way, I like the sunroof on mine.

It's not. Not in 2020 at least. its accurate to say that it's only an available option on Premium models or above, but it's not PART of the Premium package.

I'd take a sunroof if I have to. I've just never been a sunroof fan and I want to put a full roof rack on anyway so the sunroof would just get in the way. We'll see.

Most Premiums do, not all. Sunroofs are big sellers and you can't add them at the dealer. There are some without sunroofs, but then those also usually don't add on a big ticket option like KDSS. They are a unicorn, but they do exist.

When shopping my 2019 ORP 3 months ago the dealer had 2 ORPs w/ no moonroof on the lot, both had zero options. One in the color I wanted, but when compared next to the same color w/ Moonroof and the price was like $500 difference it was a no brainer. Got the moonroof.

I gotcha but I’m gonna put a full roof rack on it and potentially a rooftop tent so having a moon roof won’t really be of any value.
