IFS Inferiority Complex

Out here on Long Island, Jeeps are a dime a dozen...so naturally 95% of our local 4wd club drives XJs. These XJ drivers are outragously arrogant for a bunch of guys who drive unibody pre-crossovers. Constantly hearing things like "you can't do that with IFS" makes me want to try and prove them wrong, hence my blown front diff (which by the way will be replaced by Wednesday).
So I want to see pics/vids/whatever...something showing the craziest, toughest or most bizarre obstacle you've ever taken on with your "inferior" IFS Mall Crawler!

Even if they did have the balls, they arent going to get out of it without a winch.

They're not all bad, this kid made it open/open that I needed a Rear locker to do and the Xtra-Cab dual locked couldn't make. But yes, for the most part Jeep guys are almost as bad as Rover guys!

its really all about the person behind the wheel. i'm not gonna argue that a solid axle isn't better. but i guarantee that i could take my 4runner places that some people wouldn't be able to take a rubicon.

plus don't all your jeep friends trailer their rigs?

95% of the guys I wheel with are Jeepsters. When I first started wheeling, many of them kind of chuckled at my 4runner. After wheeling with me a few times, they have a newly earned respect for the runner. I hang on the same trails that Jeeps do with comparable equipment. The solid axle gives them an advantage in some situations, but they have learned that this 4runner will compensate in other areas and make it through. Like was said earlier, most of them trailer their Jeeps to the trail - that is because they know it is prone to breaking something and they may not be able to drive it home. This last weekend was the first time I actually broke something on the trail, my right front cv axle, and I thought it was the end of the world. All the Jeep guys just kinda acted like it was no big deal, that is because they do it all the time, and some actually carry spare cv axles with them.

If I was not driving the 4runner, I would be in a Jeep Rubicon, ....., they are both outstanding vehicles on trails both with their own advantages, and disadvantages.

i was up there yesterday, and my friend almost flopped his sas 2nd gen 4runner there. he slid to the left and both front tires came off the ground. after that i didnt even try it.

that rock garden on the drivers right in the beginning is great too. my 4runner handles that

a magazine did an article on the IFS in an older 4runner i think it was 4wheel parts. sorry i was in a shop when i read it i don't really remember the name of the magazine. but yeah im pretty sure they said it kept up with the jeeps no problem

Heck I am still impressed with what my truck can do each time I go out. I wish I had video of some of the crazier stuff I have done in my truck. I am sure my truck can do more then what I limit it too as there are still quite a few situations that give me major pucker. John Bull and some of the Hammers on video in IFS would be good to show your buddies.

All-Pro has done an IFS Challenge the past couple years out at the Hammers in Johnson Valley. These are some of the hardest rock crawling trails.
