Ignition Key/ Headlights

I bought this back in 2018 and it has always bothered me that there is no audible alarm for leaving in the ignition key in to remind to remove before exiting the vehicle.

The same thing with my headlights. I would like an alarm to shut them off. Either that or shutting them off when the vehicle shuts off.

Any ideas?

I have a Limited so I can’t help about a notification for the key being left in the ignition, though your headlights should shut off a minute after you lock your doors (a safety feature to illuminate the area while you enter your house etc), and you can turn them off immediately by hitting the lock button twice. IIRC that’s standard across all of the models…


ETA here’s a thread which suggests it’s possible to change the settings to enable the chime you’re looking for!

It does have the ignition key chime and headlights turn off when you press the lock button twice on the built in key fob. Also the autoshut off after a while.

I do not have a chime. I am sure about that. Is there a fuse I should check?

The fuse covers should have description, also the user manual for the corresponding fuses. If the previous owner had disabled the chime then it will be more work some have disconnected the chime connector from the steering column. Also check the door latch sensors.

Could be disabled thru techstream.

Both are programmable features.

On my 2011 TE the lights will shut off on their own after about a minute or so,
also beeps like a mofo when I open the door with the key still in the ignition.
