Ignition Ring No Longer Lit

Went to the dealer to get a replacement bulb for my ignition ring which just went out. The parts guy spent about 10 min. going through the diagrams, couldn't find the bulb and then disappeared in the back.
When he came back he said the light bulb is an integral part of a solenoid in the ignition switch which had to be replaced. Apparently its not as easy as just replacing the bulb itself. The part is $70.
I know the lower part of the dash needs to be popped out, and I haven't done that yet, to get a good look at what the deal is.
This doesn't sound right to me.
Anyone replaced this bulb?
Any insight?

no, but the bottom of the dash is just 2 bolts (10mm) and a few wires to disconnect on the switches... takes about 5 minutes if you're slow.

Yeah, I know it comes off pretty easily, I'm just waiting on a switch to do the VSC OFF mod before I tear into it.
I just thought I can't be the only one who has had this bulb go out and I'm looking for their experience replacing it.

It looks like the parts guy might be right. I took a look on the parts diagrams also and could not find anything. The only part is the ignition switch itself. Part number: 84450-12200 and it runs about $70 give or take depending where you get it from.

A search of the net gave some pic’s of the part:



Form the pic it looks like there are only 2 screws that hold it in place so it might be an easy replacement, assuming you can get to the part.

It’s an odd looking ignition switch if you ask me. I wonder if this goes around the lock cylinder? If it’s truly a switch wouldn’t you need to have it re-keyed?

Thanks guys, any help is appreciated.
I probably won't know more until I do the VSC mod and take a closer look at the ignition switch.
Pretty expensive just for a light around the switch.
Am I the only one whose lighted ring went out??? Very hard to believe.

Now that you mention it, mine is out as well. I'm also looking for the plastic surface ring. Anyone know the part for that?

Part# is listed a couple posts up.

Funny thing is just a couple hours ago I did the VSC Off mod and when I pulled the lower dash apart to put the switch in I was checking out the ignition ring and whatever I touched or jiggled made it come back on.
Looks like the ring would be a PITA to replace.
