Illumination out on my 2000 4runner

Well I hooked up a extra orange/black wire from my head unit to the illumination wire and now I have no illumination on the dash, so I removed the bad wire. My question is now how to replace the rheostat?? or module that I might have fried? Is this something I can do or do I need to take it in? thanks

You probably just blew a fuse.
Check all the fuses under dash with a test light.
Most likely the panel fuse. Check PDF file here.

mine was a fuse. your taillights should be out too. the po-nines will smoke u in a heartbeat. get that fixed.
