So this morning I found that my daughters car seat had came a little loose. My garage does not have the space to open the hatch (I back in) so I pulled out and lifted the hatch to tighten the back belt. Without thinking, left the hatch open and got inside to fix the inside belts. After a few tugs I heard a thud, oops. The damn hatch was touching the stucco on the outside of the door frame! Why I didn't realize this, I do not know, but now I have a 1"x3" spot on each side of my license plate that has scratches down to the metal. Awesome :guitar3:

I was quoted 375 to fix, and re-clear the entire hatch. This includes fixing a small dent that was provided by a soccer mom that doesn't know how to back up her SUV and hit me. Does this sound about right? I tried to use the touchup paint but it is fairly noticeable (to me, my fiance didn't notice it until I pointed it out, just a dull area).

Driven into my vice in the garage.

Opened my hatch into my garage door overhead- twice.

Dropped a screwdriver down the quarterpanel while working on the roof.

Scored the leather steering wheel slightly with a dremel. yup.:thumb3:

Scratched the leather on my seat with my keys.
yadayadayada.

I'm a dumbass too, but my sh!t still looks good!

Head Injury

Well, so far, I have not hurt the 4R today, yet.

However, I did just reach down to grab a towel off my kitchen floor and managed to hit my forehead squarely on a new kitchen table chair. Gash about 1/2" long that took :20 to get to stop bleeding. I think I need two stitches actually. Great...

Mea Culpas are good for the soul! Yes, it sounds about right! I should know. I picked up an almost new BMW Z4 a few weeks ago. We have a steep driveway and you can't see very well when backing out of the garage. Most of the time my wife parks her Camry out in the street but sometimes, she leaves it in the driveway. I backed the Z4 out of the garage not thinking at all and put a nice crease all the way down half the side of the Camry, a very small dent in the rear fender on the driver's side of the otherwise perfect Z4.

I was so pissed at myself that it kept me fully awake all that night. $1000 damage to the Z4 and $2000 damage to the Camry which had to get a new door skin and have the entire side painted. We didn't tell anyone about it, but of course you all know now, and I got it fixed as soon as was physically possible. I had the Toyota dealership body shop do the work and they did an absolutely bang up job on both vehicles. I insisted that the bodyshop manager put his absolutely best tech on both vehicles and I only have highest praise for their work. I have a minor OCD condition when it comes to these things and so it was satisfying to see that they came through for me.

375??? I'd shop around dude. Believe it or not, check craigslist, you'd be surprised how many mechanics/painters do stuff at home for a discount. I wouldn't pay more than 200 tops to do the rear hatch. That dent is nothing when they have to pop it out. It take them just a few minutes to pop out a little dent with a slide hammer.

That's how i found my body guy, he does amazing work for half the price.

Honestly, $200 was what I was expecting. However, the pearl is in the clear so they want to clear the whole thing.

Seems to be common - Damn Toyota for not having an alarm for it - oh wait, they do, you just have to be going over 5mph to get the beep. That is one beep I wish I could re-program for as soon as it goes it gear. Sure there is an 'idiot light' for it but who looks down for those.....ohhhh....I'm the idiot!:redbrick:
 
Hi, my name is Matt and I'm a dumbass.
I ground a large section of my rocker panel down while trying to trim it.
I oversprayed the crap out of my tailgate while blacking out the rear emblem and spent 2hrs rubbing the overspray off.
I cut the wrong wire doing the "ALWAYS PARTY MODE" mod, thank god it wasnt a bomb.
AHHH, that feels better.
 
My dumbass moment was when i was painting my rear emblem black. I had removed it and left the rear gate open and started to go inside. Like I normally do I closed the garage. :cry: The garage door broke and now I have permanent scratches on my rear hatch. Oh well.

I'm a dumbass because............

The 3rd week I had mine I got rub/scrape marks all over the headliner loading and unloading a few bikes...:redbrick:

Last winter, after parking ON the huge snowpiles a bunch of times in front of my house here on Long Island, I went to demonstrate how badass our rides are by doing the same on a snowpile in the middle of CT. Didn't consider for second one that the extra 10 or more degrees colder it was may have frozen their snowpiles to hard-as-a-rock ice................ My front bumper took the hit, right next to the solid steel beam underneath it :redbrick: shearing and denting the plastic bumper. :redbrick::redbrick::redbrick:

This summer I barely clipped a curb making a right-hand turn which tore the sidewall of my back right tire~ and I was with 3 other people on our way to a wedding no less...... :redbrick: and my truck has otherwise taken me over hill and dale and back without a hiccup

And 2 weeks ago when Irene was heading our way I was mandatorily evacuated (I live on a barrier island on LI's south shore...) and managed to scrape up the paint and rubber window piece while loading the previously mentioned bikes in and out of the rear window. Ya think I'd have learned by now....LOL The worst part was that a day or two earlier I had been looking at a Thule hitch mounted biked rack but decided I didnt need to spend $175 for one when I have the room inside the truck. Can't wait to see how much MORE than $175 that repair will be :redbrick::redbrick::redbrick:
 
Ouch. I'm glad I started the dumbass thing. I don't feel like nearly as much as a dumbass now. I can't believe some of the **** you guys have done. LOL

Well, since my grill is already scratched, might as well attempt the Satashi mod.

Okay, I'll join in, too. A couple of months ago I backed mine into the garage with the hatch open. Heard crunching and crashing and plastic falling to the ground and thought I crushed the spoiler. As it turns out, the lower edge of the hatch cammed under the garage lip and nothing really contacted with any force until the license plate hit. The hatch slid soundlessly under the lip until the first thing I heard was the clear plastic license plate cover shattering as the plate itself was being folded into a "Z". That was the first noise I heard to warn me that I had done something stupid! :)

I was SO lucky!! The only damage was the license plate frame (obviously), the plate itself and a couple of very shallow scratches just below the plate. Hard to believe so little damage when it could have been SO bad! Still cost me $300 to get the hatch repainted, though. Oh, well, live and learn.
