hey guys. i got my new body on the 85. i sanded and painted the frame and have also installed my procomp list. for the last 4 years i have had an intermitent surging / power loss problem. some times it dont wanna go at all tell i get the rpms up at wich time itll take off like its shot from a gun. i checked egr and it was good. tps seems good, maf is good, good fuel pressure, changed the o2, and just finished changing the coolent temp censor and thermostat. it seems to be running rich and im thinking im getting the fuel dump problem. symptoms dont change when i disconect the cold start injector. even after a new o2 im getting 5 flashes. 85 22re. looking foward to sugjestions.:crybaby:

How did you arrive at the conclusion that the TPS is good, did you ohm it out? Did you check continuity between the TPS and the ECU? Because "some times it dont wanna go at all tell i get the rpms up at wich time itll take off like its shot from a gun" sounds exactly like a bad signal from the TPS. Your O2 sensor may be fine.

I have a couple 22RE ECUs I'm trying to get rid of, if you end up deciding that the ECU is bad.

to be honest, i took the tb off and took it and the tps to a machanic friend. he said tps was off adjusted it. before he adjusted it he took it off and said it appears it may be sticking a little on the rebound. he lubed it up a little and it retracted fine, put it back on the tb and i was fianaly able to set the timing. its not too cheap so im hoping it isnt that but very well could be. i was hoping if it was tps it would throw a tps code. god i dont wanna throw a tps at it if it isnt the problem...

my buddy owns an ase shop. hes the real deal. he assumes my issues are related to the tps not rebounding all the way but id hate to buy a new one for no reason.:yield: i guess lol. its going to suck if i buy the tps and have the issue again. at that point id start leanen towards leaking injectors ( i assume that wouldn't be intermittent), bad grounds (seem fine), or faulty harness. i did find the bad injector grounds in wire loom but i suck at sodering. not sure if i have mentioned but i have tried to different computers. gona take her on another road trip today. be back with updates after i decide if the new temp coolant censer fixed my issues. and ty air. if issue is not resolved i will trace the o2 wire as well.

Don't guess. Ask him to demonstrate the tests he ran on it, and if they aren't the same tests on 4Crawlers page, run those too. There's nothing wrong with learning the procedure yourself, you know. :)

If the TPS checks out, it checks out and you can look elsewhere without buying a $100 TPS for no reason. If it fails, you can buy a new one with confidence.

so i replaced the coolant temp censor and it seemed to help out quiet a bit. i do still have a bit of a hesitation and i know for a fact that the tps has a bit of a problem retracting. (got better when i took it off and lubed it up). if it acts up again im going to just replace the tps. after that.....track the o2 wire i guess. thanks for the ideas.
