I'm buying a used motor, what should i replace before install

Friday I will be picking up a 22re out of a 92 4runner with 128000 miles. Before I put it in my truck what should i replace? I know I should probably do the timing and steal guides but what else should I do or inspect.

I would think it is a good time to replace everything you can afford to.

valve job not out of the question at 100+ K, performance increase likely, better to know when you have it out, lets you eye ball the bores too for scuffs and ridges (wear) .

Look at the front & rear seals, any weepage you can replace without disturbing the crank. pan seal up.

mostly depends on the value of your time; if a couple 100 parts now perhaps a little premature is better than you pulling it again / later, go for it

That's a loaded question: Rear Main Seal? EGR cooler plate? Coolant bypass union?

Oil pump, water pump, Timing Chain.

I ordered a new oil pump, water pump, timing chain with steel guides, head gasket, and head bolts, I'll take the head to get milled. Got all the parts from enginebldr. Hopefully the motor looks good

did you check that the block deck was flat ? The head has to sit against something.

If you go it that far down , what not plastigage the rod & main shells?
Did you cehck compression ?

Between those two items you can be pretty sure if the motor is past/ fail
