My meaning was, the T4R drives like a truck...thus...that is another reason for me to like & buy it...versus the Explorer being a big car/based on the Ford Taurus platform, front wheel drive, and more...sorry if i was a little vague at which i was criticizing.
 
Back in 2010 I owned a 98'. Couldnt afford a Yota at the time. Went off road once, it did ok. It had comfortable seats but they didn't cancel out the timing chain death rattle I would hear on start up. Sold it a few months later before it got worse. Freaking Joke. No pride in your product if you have a nick name like EXPLODER. Seems like you would want fix that. My buddies took a crap on him......twice. Can't say he isn't loyal, misguided, but loyal.
As far as a new one? When the power 3rd row and the lift gate quit working, and the intuitive CC causes an accident, its just a big hunk of pot metal with tires.
 
New Explorer is a POS. I refuse to drive one at work and opt to take one of our aging mid-2000's Crown Vics out on shift instead.

Sadly the Explorer is going to be the default police cruiser for most agencies once the few remaining CVPIs die.

I will say that the older BOF Explorers with PT 4WD were ok... maybe not "long term" vehicles but they got me a lot of crazy places on shift and remind me a lot of what the 4R is... the 4R being just a better, more reliable variant of those older Explorers.

My immediate thought was "don't care about that feature", "don't want that feature", "don't want that feature", "don't want..."
 
My gen 3 will be driving by the carcasses of these in 20 years, robbing them of light bulbs and other consumables. With my rear window down, only imagine what 5th gen folks are feeling about that comparison.

Someone needs to tell Ford that desperate isn't a good look on them
In my part of the country- on any given day- I see at least 4x as many 4Runners as I do Explorers. I personally know 10 people with a white 5th gen. At least 5 more in other colors. I know 1 person with a new Explorer. This ad makes perfect sense to me.
For the record, I actually like Fords quite a bit. I REALLY want a new Super Duty, F-150s are straight gangster, I think their cars are looking pretty darn good, and I can't help but love the Mustang. Douche-mobile, but I still love a nice Mustang.
 
I'll keep my T4R for my daily driver but I do like my Mustang for the weekends!!!

My wife had an Explorer as a loaner while her car was in the shop. With almost no miles on it, the features were:
  • Impressive in their number and function at first
  • Pretty useless at second glance (I'm fully capable of folding seats by myself)
  • Worrisome when I thought about how FUBAR they would all be within a few years
