i'm flying out to boulder/denver today to stay with my brother for a month. i will be working during the week, but i won't have much to do on the weekend. i'd love to meet some of you people from that area and possibly go for a trail ride or 2. everytime i see pictures that you guys put up, it makes me want to move there full time. i obviously won't have my own rig there, but my bro has a stock 97 sr5 4x4 that he might let me borrow. either way, i'd love to go for a run or ride along on any runs you guys already have planned. feel free to pm me for my number

Be careful - it gets in your blood and you may not want to leave. ;-)

There are a boatload of ghost towns and 4WD trails all over the state. Many of them in the mountains are old mining roads and there are plenty that are accessible with a stock 4WD (without breaking/scratching anything). From mild to wild, you'll find it here.

Do a Google for --> colorado four wheel drive trails <-- and you'll find a plethora of information.

Colorado is geographically unique in that the northern end of the Rocky Mountains are more of an alpine ecosystem whereas the southern end is much more of a high desert ecosystem.

Wherever you go, you'll see some really beautiful scenery, that is for sure.

There are some mining roads and forest roads you can get a two wheel drive over no problem. Most of the online trail guides specify 2 or 4wd, easy to difficult, etc...

sorry I havent replied sooner, theres a couple of us on here that hit the mountains every weekend, and sometimes during the week, lol wheeling is like crack, :bouncy:
Most of the trails we hit are rated a 5, which with a good driver (meaning he listens to the spotter,lol) and a good spotter, 5s are doable in a stock rig.

For those available next Thursday, I will be going up to Loch Lomond in the morning and spending all day up there. Its rated a 2 and any stock 4runner should make it fine, its still a fun little run, 2.6 miles long and ends at a really nice lake. Check it out on traildamage.com.

Im taking my in laws and my kid up there, will spend most of the day up there hiking, fishing and playing around in our trucks, so if that sounds like fun to you and if you are free next thurs the 30th and want to go, PM me for the details.

Well, I have a stock 2WD...doubt I would make it to where you guys are going. :sobbing:
 
change of plans for sunday, if anyone is still interested. We are going to run Geneva creek and we are meeting at the conoco in Aspen Park at 10 am.

You can connect with saxton mtn from the top of Geneva creek. Saxton is an easy trail, but has great views coming down the crazy switchbacks into Georgetown. when you get to the spot on Geneva creek with the big depression in the ground, make a hard right (this is the intersection at the start of the hill we turned around on on the run a few months ago). At the next intersection make a left. Then follow the sign on the rock to "leventine" (right turn) Its an old town site that has a brand new looking custom home on the right side of the trail. After that home you will come to an intersection of trails. Snow, if you remember when you went with me up there a few months ago, that is the intersection where we went to the right (looking for the top of the spring creek trail) and then played at all those hills of mining debis. After that trip, I found out that if you go left, you will go down the saxton mountain trail, and that is also the direction to the top of spring creek.

Just a suggestion for your run tomorrow. I will be stuck cleaning up my mess of a yard from the mega hail storm, so I can't go. That area is great because you can connect from Idaho springs, to downieville or georgetown. Its great when you can come out a different place than you started!!

BTW, why not run spring creek? I have yet to run that one, but really want to. I think it should be a good and tough one! I am eager to go on another run...
 
There were some other people that wanted to run geneva creek instead cause they have already done spring creek. And well, Im really down for anywhere lol!

Thanks for the directions, maybe we'll head that way. Good luck getting the yard cleaned up!
 
ok so this weekend i am busy, but i saw the buena vista thread on co4lo and i'm going to try and make at least one of those days. hopefully more. any plans for next weekend? (8th-9th)
