Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. After SIX (count 'em, six) Grand Cherokees in a row, I got smart and bought a 4Runner. It was love-at-first-drive. Can't say enough about the 'yoda! Black 2011 SR5, 2WD (Used 4WD on the jeeps twice in 12 years), basic with the exception of the tan 'sport fabric' power seats. I found it on a dealer website advertised as the "Hot-On-The-Lot" deal at $28499 (Sticker of $31,900). I offered them $250 less, $28,249 and they TOOK IT! So now, after 15 years of Grand Cherokee Limited's, loaded with every option, I'm as happy as a clam at high tide in a base-model 4Runner. Life is good!

However...that stereo had to go. :-( Today I bought the following to replace the factory unit:
Kenwood DNX6160 touchscreen GPS / XM
2 Polk 690 6x9's
4 Polk 650 6 1/2's
2 Alpine tweeters
1 Kicker 10" sub w/ enclosure
1 Polk 660 (driving the 6 regular speakers)
1 Polk 330 (driving the sub)
Steering Wheel adapter
Double Din center bezel

No way I'm gonna try to tackle all that, so off to the shop she goes. Any comments, ideas, helpful hints on that setup?? I don't need a giant sub because I'm friggin' fifty already, and added the amps just for the clearer music, I've been flying jets for 30 years and the hearing isn't what it used to be. Open to ideas and suggestions, so fire away. Thanks.

Welcome, after 6 Grand Cherokee's in 15 years, I hope you just have one Toyota 4Runner for the next 15 years.

That's the plan, neighbor, drive it 'till it dies! Easy to do in a Jeep, btw. I didn't have one out of six that didn't leave me on the side of the road inside of 60K miles.

I'm in Jasper, GA., right up the road from you.

I kind of figured they didn't leave you high and dry. When you said you owned 6 Cherokees, I thought of the old Volvo commerical, the guy in the commerical says, I love my car, I buy one every two years and for the last 10 years. Then the Volvo spokesman says, if that doesn't make sense, why not buy the Volvo. A good friend of mine has a 93 Grand Cherokee, it doesn't run too good, but it still runs, I am not sure how a 93 Volvo would be, but it was a funny comerical.

I have a brother in-law in Jasper. When I visit him, I like to go to the Bargain Barn.
 
Welcome! Drive a few miles north (about 500) and you will get to me and you would need the 4wd option. We are getting snow now. I like snow, but too much of a good thing is not so good. Anyway, welcome and enjoy the Black.
 
1Engineer: Thanks, but Georgia is too far north for me ;-) truth is, I wanted 4WD for the heck of it, but the wife is OK with motorcycles, boats, & planes, so I had to give in somewhere....

nashman69g: pics soon, gotta get a sunny day! Now flying the 737-700 out of Atlanta, and we've got a partnership in a Cessna 310 for personal use. In a previous life I flew the F-4 & F-15. Ahh, to be young again! Do you fly?

U fly Delta or Continental or? The Eagle must have been a nice switch from the Phantom? I do fly...well getting my license--I'll be free one day. It's been a long and very slow process. Just need to find the free time and $$. I like to get behind a twin one day.

Ahh the F-4...proof that with enough power even a brick can fly!!! Those had to be a blast though!! I'm guessing delta?

I've been out of ATC for a while, is that the T-45 Goshawk? Congrats, that means you're in the fighter pipeline? Good luck bro, that's the winning lotto ticket. Keep your nose clean & wait until you're operational to show off, trust me! ;-) It's the most fun you'll ever have, pants on OR off! Fly safe.
 
nashman...stick with it, it's almost prohibitive expensive going the civilian route. Sure is fun tho!
Yes, the -15 was a whole new world after flying the -4. Ever heard of the BLV?? Bleed Lift Valve; it's job was to blow engine bleed air through a small 'fence' down onto the root of the wing to help it fly. Yikes. Slow was bad, and low was bad. Together they were fatal. Kept it high, or fast, or both. The -15, on the other hand, was the greatest Christmas present I ever got! Phenomenal! Absolute Air Superiority in any theatre, anywhere in the world. I sure miss her!!!!

Check out USMC 4Runner's new ride! I wasn't a Marine, but I'm pretty sure if he's in the Goshawk, he's in the fighter pipeline, which means (if he goes to fixed wing) he'll end up in the FA-18 Super Hornet, most likely ship-based. Not to speak for him, but I think that's the Marine progression.

Flying the -15 was a career (and lifetime) highlight, no doubt about it. Good stuff. Then again, nobody shoots at you in a 737...

Thanks for the Kudos. Proud to have served, but it's almost like stealing when you're getting paid to fly those!

What I wouldn't do to just get to ride in one of those...I have about 2 hrs sim time in a Hornet...8 takeoffs, 3 landings(probably broke a lot of the undercarriage on all), 1 failed carrier landing(joined the fishes), 2 dog fights(died twice)...Not quite ready to be in a fighter...Very overwhelming cockpit compared to a Cessna...lol Love the pics...keep them coming...Next we need a pic with 4Runner in it also.
