ok, my muffler it planing on giving up soon due to rust, and i want something louder! i have an K&N intake.....


what are the dimentions on the stock muffler so i can compare it to a new muffler??? thanks for your help BTW i have a 1996 SR5

Stock muffler is huge, any replacement will most likely be a lot smaller than the OEM part. I was awe struck when I saw the guys at Midas take out my old muffler. Had to be 2x bigger than my Dynomax

It is pretty large. I just ordered a Vortex and it's not that much smaller. Hoping to get it installed today!

I hope that those of you interested in Flowmaster exhausts like them for the sound. I had one on my 99 and the tone gets old fast - especially the drone at 2000 rpm. If you think you gain performance from these things, you might want to do some research.

Anyone with a science background knows that changing the diameter of the exhaust flow increases turbulence and backpressure. In terms of fluid dynamics, the above picture is ridiculous.

If you want a loud exhaust and performance, get any 14" Magnaflow. If you want a quiet exhaust and performance, get the 5x11x22" Mag. For $100 you get a straight through stainless steel muffler, core, and mesh. Beats the galvanized mild steel that most exhausts are made out of.

Im a total nub when it comes to exhaust system for these trucks, I have a 2001 runner and am interested in a mild to loud cat back system I believe... again nub here.

I've got the Flowmaster 40Delta; Center inlet, Offset outlet; its a single out, piping is 2.5". Sounds like a baby V8, there is a drone at a certain rpm but just drive a few mph over or under and it goes away. Check around your local muffler shops for prices and such. I paid about $150 (price included new piping, muffler, install). Then bought a Flowmaster tip off Amazon & welded it on at the shop.
