I'm New here and 4Runner vs. FJ

Hey guys,

I'm new here. I live in San Diego. I have a 2004 Toyota 4Runner Limited 4wd V8 with a 2.5" front ebay spacer and cornfed 2" rear spacer.




this is my friend in his 2007 Toyota FJ TRD edition with 6" coilovers and all-terrain tires.

the tires are sh!tty stock sized Hankooks they came on the 4runner when i bought it used at carmax.

WoW. does the FJ have good tires ? Locking rear diff ? Atrac ? How are his driving skills ? Seem you made it much easier than the FJ did. I love FJ's , but just goes to show you what the 4R is capable of in stock form (except spacers) & marginal tires .

Did you do it in 4H / lo , locked ? Coming down did you use the DAC ?

Do you have any flat pavement pics of your truck , I would love to see the rake stance with the 2.25" front and the 2" BACK.

we both were in 4lo with our center diffs locked. the FJ has better tires for sure, but im not sure what they are.

I did use DAC coming down and it was very stable.

I will get a pic soon of the 4R.

we both locked our center diffs

hmm im not 100% sure, all i know is that he told me he was in the worst conditions mode.

Just a tiny correction...his FJ is a 2007 TRD edition. The 2008 Special Edition is all white.

"worst condition mode"...hehehe, sounds like he was driving those new Land Rovers with the "Terrain Response" system.

That was strange - I would normally expect (all other things being equal) for the FJ to perform as well as if not better than the T4R in most off roading situations, especially if he has the rear locker. It almost looked to me like you were able to utilize your V8's torque advantage to build up better speed/momentum at the base of the hill when you first took off after clearing your rear bumper and had more grunt to power your way up and over when it got really steep at the top.
