Impressions 5th Gen

So nine years later I finally actually drove an SR 5 5th Gen. Here are my thoughts petite and large.

Cons
The whole feel of the vehicle is larger and underpowered.
Not as quick and less nimble.
The dials and buttons were designed to save money.
Window controls are uncomfortably set on the sill.
The steering wheel is larger and less comfortable.

There is no button for rear window down at least on this SR5 model.
Heater controls are awkward and hard to see
Radio is dressed up but poor sound quality.
No Burger Tray
4 LED stop light on 3rd brake light instead of 6


Pros
The vehicle feels comfortable and substantial
Smooth ride.
Larger cabin.
Cargo space is larger

I got new rear brakes today. The OEM's from date of sale lasted 151K.

I have both… 4th and 5th, and I still prefer my 4th gen over it.

I have a Limited 5th and from a luxury and comfort standpoint, it does an excellent job. But the way my SR5 4th gen drives just feels more fun overall. It’s hard to verbalize it but even things like the turning radius feels better on the 4th.

The limited 5th has a ton of stuff that I wish my SR5 4th had, but that was the point of getting what I got. Wife still complains about the missing sun glass holder on the 5th gen.

I use them for different things, so it’s hard to really compare.

Sounds about right on the pros and cons. I also am not crazy about the overall looks, although I did like the interior, at least on the one I checked out. The biggest CON for me would be having a car payment! I was able to pay cash for my ‘04 V8, so that was a huge draw for me, and I prefer the compact size and aesthetics of the gen4 anyway. One other CON for me is the lack of a V8 offering.

great point^ i can relate...i could have got into a 5th gen but i own my 4th gen...bought it with cash and love having no car payment.

I have 2004 Sport and 2014 Limited. The 04 turns WAYY better than 14. I have to back up a lot in the 14 cause I am used to 04. Its crazy the difference. Also MPG with my v8 04 on 33's is same if not better than 14 stock.

#ME TOO. I like my 5th gen but I love my 4th gen. On any given day, I'll find myself grabbing the keys to the 4th! The overall fit and finish (quality) of the 4th just seems better to me...don't know why Toyota cheaped out on the 5th in regards to some of the little things....no locking gas door, no driver grab handle, no roof rack cross rails, no trailer hitch rubber plug, no storage bins on top of the rear wheel wells, no flip out console tray, etc. I'm always casually looking for that 4th gen unicorn....rust-free, low-mile, garage queen. If and when I find that vehicle, it's going to be pretty tough not to pull the trigger.

I thought every 5th Gen had the rear window button in the same place. On mine, lay your right arm on the center console and reach down with your hand - it's right there.

I'm thoroughly enjoying mine. None of the cons you express, but that may be partly due to my limited experience (have only owned 1st and 3rd Gens before my 2019), and partly due to my expectations.

For me, the two biggest differences were that the engine felt sluggish and the turning radius was terrible. I had always planned on "upgrading" to a 5th Gen, but now I don't think I will.
