It was 6 years for the 2nd gen and 7 years for the 3rd gen. You want documentation when it is coming, perhaps this person knows more than we do:4RNR-LOVN said:

There were changes in the end of the 3rd generations life cycle that may of extended the next generation. Crossover SUV's were gaining in popularity. In early 2001 Toyota came out with the Highlander. There was talk that the 4Runner, which was about the same size, was going to get the axe. But in 2002 they kept the 4Runner for one more year and it was a great joy to the 4Runner owners that they came out with another generation of 4Runner.
My best guess is 2009, unless Toyota holds up for some reason. What if gas goes to $5.50 a gallon in the next 2 years, or what if it drops in price. What if ....... ????

What if they cancel they 4Runner? I mean Toyota recently axed the Celica and the MR-S/MR2 event though the Celica has been produced for decades.
I doubt they will get rid of the 4Runner, but you never know

You heard of the I-5 engine, bigger than a 4 cyl, but smaller than the V6. Well, how about Toyota comes out with a 7 cyl. engine so we won't have to debate anymore.Thai said:Will it still come with a V6 and V8 so that we can all have these same V6 vs V8 debates over and over again???

By 2009, the diesel fuel standards will be in place and Toyota will put one of their diesel engines in the new 4Runner.
The MPG and torque of the diesel engine will end the V6 vs V8 debate.

The I-5 is a tricky engine, an I-6 would be the best. It produces the best hp/litre and is a relatively simple design. They also get better gas mileage than the V8. BMW has been running them for years and they are some of the best engines out there. The only I-5's I can think of were in the Acura Vigor and a Volvo V70. True, but litre for litre diesels produce 4-6 times the polution of a gasoline engine. That is my Naderite rant...
What they need to do is make an E-85 version. I'll be dammed if I'm going to pay 800 dollars for a conversion kit!
