In Cabin Filter

Went to autozone today and asked for an in cabin filter for my '97 4Runner SR5 and I was told that it didn't require one.

Is this true? If not, where is it located? and what kind of filteR?

From what I know, the 3rd gen 4runners dont have a cabin air filter.
