In-Depth Comparison Between 5th Gen 4Runner and LX470

Has anyone done an in-depth comparison between the 5th gen 4runner and the LX470? I know they're in somewhat of a different class than one another but they're my top two choices for a new vehicle. I'm still a couple years away from being able to make this happen financially but it never hurts to start looking :biggrin2:

What do you want to compare? If price and fuel economy are no object, then LX470 wins by a mile! No comparison. Everything 5th gen has (except KDSS), you can add to LX470. BUT, the reverse is not true.

man the jump from a 4runner to an LX is nuts (the below numbers are for 2015 T4R, LX, LC)

your looking at 39k (TE) / 43k (LE) to a 85k vehicle. another option is the land cruiser.

granted the LX has better interior appointments, but if you decide to take it offroad the LC and/or the 4runner is probably better in a nutshell.

LX = prem fuel
LC = reg fuel

outside of the following everthing is the same between a LX and LC (1st # = LX, 2nd # = LC) :

HA! I'm talking about an LX470 within the same price range (would never buy a new one/could never afford that).

I guess I would expand my search to include the GX470.

So all between $22-$27K budget

the best comparison you will get is the 4Runner vs the GX460/470.

If your going to compare the LX570 then you need to compare it to the Land cruiser since its basically the same vehicle with a different badge.

now I know the older LC's are coveted for overland and off roading since they are more robust than the lexus models and are simple to fix/upgrade.

I have spent time in both and and the 470 is awesome but with that being said a 5th gen will do a bit better off road vs the 470 off road. There are some definite trade offs more room, cozy and quiet vs being a bit more nimble off road, what do you want? NoDak hit the nail on the head with this! Technical trails=4Runner vs Overland=470, the 470 is a ton more comfortable but it comes with the price of fuel and maintenance cost since there is a bit more to go wrong. The 4runner will never have the cargo carrying capacity as the 470 but it's cheaper to mod and maintain. With this being said I chose the Runner for my overland travels since it's just the wife and myself any more and it would have been the 470. There are times I long for a 470 aka Hundy and other times I am glad it's just a little 4runner. Either way I don't think you can go wrong you just need to ask yourself how you are going to use it.
