I was so interested in the Field monitor but it didn't do what I wanted it to do. I wanted see the slopes I am traversing in degrees.
Filed Monitor shows the direction (compass) which my runner has it in the mirror, it shows the outside Temp (in Celsius) which my runner shows on the climate control (in Fahrenheit) and lastly, it shows the altitude (in meters). I live in NC which is pretty flat and only 300 or so feet above sea level, so it would not get much use (that and my phone can accurately give my GPS coordinateness and altitude if i wanted to know exactly).
So I bought a Inclometer that Toyota used to sell in the 1st gen 4runners and Tercel's for $100. I wanted to graft it into the lower part of my center console. I didn't want ruin my faux wood trim so i experimented first.I tried it out on a extra Console bezel piece I had for 96-98 4runners.
I cut and bonded and painted and this is what i came up with.
Here is a side view.
Back view.
Here it is on a side slope incline.
Anyway. It looks OK. The Lights on it work like there supposed too. The is a Background light that lights up the display when the dash lights turn on and there is a 4X4 light lights up bright and then automatically dims when the dash lights turn on.
The ground and the dash lights can be spliced with the wires at the cigarette lighter and a single wire that can tap off the 4X4 light in the dash board or the 4x4 relays behind the passenger side kick panel.
Anyway - The downsides. You loose the ashtray and the little cubby below the ashtray.
