Indecisions, 4runner vs. FX35

Hi,

I'm about to get an SUV pretty soon and I've narrowed it down to these two nice vehicles, the FX35 and the 4Runner.

I will be taking this SUV to perhaps 4-5 trips to Lake Tahoe annually, which is the reason why I need a good SUV that will be confident in the snow. I'm also concerned about power, as I know that the 4Runner just got a nice upgrade in HP in the V8. What's the 0-60 time on the new V8 anyways? Also, I'm wondering how well the 4Runner handles with the XREAS and how the ride is with the air suspension. It seems like everything is nice about the 4runner, except it doesn't have things that the FX35 would have, such as HID and Intellikey and LED tailights.

Welcome to the site. I don't think you can go wrong with either vehicle. both will do great in the snow (on road depending on the tires/wheels you get on the FX35) the 4runner would be better off road. Both have great engines. The Nissan 3.5 V6 is one of the top ten rated engine made (rated by Wards), and the Toyota V8 is known as one of the most trouble free engines you can buy. I would say the service at the Infinite dealership would be superior to Toyota service. I would just drive them both and go with the one you like the most. Good luck.

I posted today regarding the FX 35. I currently have an 03 FX 35 AWD, Tech Pachage, Mobile Package, Sport Package.

The FX is a sports car. Great engine and tight performance. If you are looking for an SUV than go with the 4 runner. If you plan on doing a lot of snow driving then you will def need snow tires. A lot of people have Blizzaks (sp) on their FX. Go to www.infinitifx.org. It's a great forum and the people are very helpful. I have found most owners of FX's are sports car enthusiasts.

I have also owned a 99 4 runner. Loved the car and no complaints. Two different beasts IMHO. If you want sporty go with the FX. I would def get the tech package if possible. It is a very expensive option but very cool.
 
Wait a minute -- the new V8 is 4.3 in the 0-60? That's almost four seconds off the old V8. Am I just nieve? Someone remind me, I know I read it somewhere that the old V8 and new V6 were within one second of each other in the zero to sixty. Something like 7.9 or 8.6, something like that. Anyone know what the official times are for all three engines? Just curious. I have a 2005 V6, by the way. I really didn't notice very much difference between the old V8 and the new V6 so I went with the 6. Please don't make me regret getting the V6? Although I do mostly around town driving, so the 6 was the way to go for me. Thanks to all.
 
The new 05 V8's have a switch on the dash "PPS" changes the shifting pattern to be more performance oriented, pretty sweet, I don't know how you missed that feature, thats all the V8 VVTi guys leave them in, it only lowers the gas mileage by 1;):
 
i would see which car is better in the long run... do you plan to keep the car long? i had an nissan xterra and the electricals were messin up around 85k and engine problems... dunno if all nissans will do this after a short while... but in any case i have always heard toyotas have good reputations for being reliable...

FX are made in Japan, probably of a much higher level of quality cause it's made in Japan and it's a luxury make which customers expect higher quailty out of;):

The Xterra was made in the US, 1st year barnd new product so it had some issue, they ussally show up later in it's life;):

I was in the same situation 2 months ago. It's more of a sports SUV than an "SUV." That really doesn't say much because many of the SUVs out there are not meant for offroading, i.e., MDX and FX. I almost went with the MDX too. It's very luxurious, not to mention the excellent gas mileage.

Anyhow, the FX styling is a fad in my opinion. It looks good, but just not for my tastes. I had a 1990 4Runner, so my next choice was a new 4Runner. I really didn't like the lack of power that my old one had, but the 4th gens have a lot of power. That clinched it for me. A SUV must have lots and lots of power.
 
I just read that the 2005 Limiteds don't come with silver roof rails anymore! If I was to get a 4runner, I would want a black one with silver roof rails. I really like that style instead of the black ones. I'm wondering if the dealer would be able to do anything about it.
 
Them switching the roof rails to black is weird, Toyota usually adapts items features from the top models to the lower models, this is a 1st where Toyota took something from a lower model and put it on a top model, weird why the Limited now has an SR5 appeal:(
 
I think in order to make the sale, the dealer would probably be willing to swap railbars or replace them with the silver ones that I really want. I've always seen nice black 4runner's on the road with silver roof rails and that's my personal preference. It's good that I want a black 4runner because the running steps are black rubber or something like that and I like everything color matched. However much I love the FX, I think the V8 4runner should provide the extra HP to make it as fast as the FX yet more utility. I don't like how I have to buy winter tires for the FX where I don't have to for the 4runner.
