I went to the dunes on the South shore of Lake Michigan today and took some photos I figured I would share. It was a beautiful day, and the runner was all-around awesome.
It was about 1.5 hours of interstate driving each way, and about 4 hours of snow-covered trail driving up the National Lakeshore over to Mt. Baldy, a huge snowy sand dune that we climbed. From it, you could actually see the Chicago Skyline... pretty cool.
On the trails, there were a few things that came up that made me reeeaaally appreciate the 4runner... We pushed through some deep snow, climbed some snowy hills, and tramped right through maybe 6 inches of water surrounded by pure ice with absolutely no issues. What's more, I averaged around 17 mpg, even with all the snow running. I expected worse, so that was nice to find.
This was my first time out taking advantage of the truck and it's capabilities, and I had a blast. It was nothing too crazy, and I never went off the trails, but when you're used to driving in the suburbs, it doesn't take much to have a great time!
