Inexpensive GPS

The total cost of this project was about $225. All you need is a hinged box that you will cut to size, I got one at Jo-annes that was a perfect fit. Some doubled-sided foam tape. Velcro and paint, your choice of color. And glue, the box might break.
The GPS is a 7" Magellan, not the best, it sometimes locks up and needs to be re-booted but for the price you can't beat it.

it doesn't look great opened, I'll agree there. a little rough on the edges. but closed it's not a bad solution for adding GPS. no reason to completely burst the guys bubble.

Thank you for the input. I know that it is a bit rough but the basic idea works. I wanted Nav but it cost alot more and you can't program it in route. Unlike Honda. Anyway this is my first ever Toyota and remember the old commercials, "I Love It, Toyota". I really really love it. We first bought a 2011 Honda Pilot (even tho it's kinda ugly, a car only a designer could love) and I thought it was the bomb, then I saw the 2010 4runner. The clouds broke and the sun shined. Before 2010 the 4runner just seemed too skinny and not roomy enough. Problem solved, I prefer this over the expedition, and the mpg is fantastic. Plus my expedition caught fire and burned all by itself.

I'm sure you're being smart but if you don't know Ford Explorers and Expedition's did have a problem where they would catch fire due to the cruise control switches.... literally sitting in a driveway.

I finished up the GPS with some fake leather.

The Expy's fire originated in the engine, thank god I was at work in the parking garage with a sprinkler system. LAFD responded and the whole office building (16 floors) were evacuated. If this had occurred at home my apt. bldg. would probably have burned down since the parking spots are under the bldg. and there is no sprinkler system.

I think that is looking pretty nice there even if the picture isn't very clear. Did you sand and paint?

You can program the factory nav "in route" or in motion, you simply give the system verbal commands. And I'm surprised at how good the voice recognition actually is. I have yet to repeat a command.
