While I haven't tried it, the center position has a seatbelt and LATCH connectors so you should be able to put any type of kid seat there.

I would agree, yoiu should be able to put car seat or booster in the center, but I haven't tried it either.
I have a booster and an infant carrier in the back of mine, (5.5 year and 6 month old girls). If the question is can you fit a booster in the middle between two other car seats/booster, really hard to say. A statured person can sit between my two, but I wouldn't want to do it for a long car ride.
I think a lot would really depend on the exact size of the 3 car seats/boosters.
With all that said, I am really happy with how comfotable the whole family is with room in the 5th Gen, much better than our old '98 GC.

We've got a rear-facing convertible seat (britax boulevard cs) in the center position and it fits just fine, even with the front seats slid all the way back.... we have the LATCH system and the tether going under the seat up to the back of the middle seat with no probs... should work just fine for you.
That is a nice data-point too. We will have 2 seats in the back, so I'm mostly concerned with a rear-facing Britax Marathon in the outboard position. Have you tried your Boulevard there?

On my britax I have to flip the connector to go in.........don't like it but I think it is the seat and not the latch. The latch is just metal bar that you hook up to.........
Do you mean it is the car-seat or the seat on the 4R?
(This next paragraph might not be necessary, but I'll mention it anyway since my brother-in-law had his straps on his car seat upside down for a while before I mentioned this.)
If you were talking about the car-seat's connectors being flipped, you can swap the connectors on the seat so that straps are not twisted when using them correctly. Just take the seat out of the car, lift up the fabric and slide the left one to the right side (and through the strap that holds the right one on) and slide the right one back to the left. It takes a bit of effort when moving them across the area where the child sits, but totally worth it to use it the way the seat is designed to be used. I had to do this when I first got my seat and then again when I switched it from rear-facing to forward-facing.
Apologies if this wasn't what you were talking about, but I figured I'd mention it if that was the problem you were having.

I have a quick question. Going to install a peg perego rear facing infant seat in rear row (no 3rd row). Truck owners manual is pretty bad. To install this in middle seat, can I use the latch hookups for the outer seats (I don't think there are latch hookups for the middle seat. Could be wrong. Anyone have pics of this setup? Wife is saying that putting the infant seat on one of the outer seats is not what you are supposed to do with only one seat.

You're right, there are only LATCH connectors for the outside rear seats. However, I don't see any problem using the LATCH connectors to install a carseat in the middle position. In a side-impact collision, having the carseat in the middle position is the safest. Before the birth of our second daughter, we always had the carseat in the middle position, and we used the outside seats' LATCH connectors (in the 4Runner and in our Mazda 3).

We have a pair of Britax Marathon's, in our 07 (4gen) 4gen the latches fit fine, in the 2011 have to flip the latches, the bar they latch to dosent have enough clearence to put them upright (they are marked with arrows pointing up) they also seem to be about 2" closer in the 5gen, as i can't sit with my sholders back between them as i could in the 4gen.
One other thing to remember, if you put a forward facing seat on the pax side, getting into the 3rd row is a PITA

Just wondering, so the 4Runner has Latch anchor points on the two 2nd row outboard seats and also another set of anchor points for the middle seat too meaning there are 3 sets of anchor points for the 2nd row? Or is it just two sets but the two middle ones are close enough to the center so you can use those Latch points for putting a babyseat in the middle seat as well?
Hopefully that's not too confusing. Dealerships around here don't have many 4Runners and they usually don't have them in the showroom so it's hard to find one to go inside to look at.

On my '11 TE, it looks like the inboard latch mounting points can accept two seats' worth of attachments, so yes, you double up on the inside ones to get the third, middle one mounted. It's likely that not all seats will work well together though, you would have to try them to make sure.
Just mounting one in the middle also works - our little one keeps yelling "yaaaaaay! yaaaaaay!" whenever the truck plows through deep mud or water :biggrin2:
Thanks for the response. On my Rav4, putting the baby seat in the middle looks very unstable cause there is a slight hump in the middle seat and the seat will slide left and right. The 4Runner's seems a bit more flat there. We'll see what happens and whether we'll go with a 4Runner or keep our Rav4.

I thought that too. You always should put some weight onto the seat while tightening the straps to take the slack out of the cushion, and when you do, there is no wiggle room.
Also, be aware that the latch anchor points are in the backrest, and changing the amount the seats recline will change the mounting tension. I keep mine one "click" back from upright, that seems to work well, and when the little guy sleeps his head won't fall forward.

The main change is that now AAP recommends having the child ride in the REAR-FACING car seat until age of 2 or until they reach the highest weight or height limit specified by the car seat.

Agreed. If I turned my 20 month old's seat around there would be hell to pay. At some point you need to weigh your sanity vs the burden and risks of the nanny state. Hopefully the little old ladies with nothing to do but call social services all the time won't read about it until mine is clearly over 2 years.
