Infinity Basslink II with expansion card

Crutchfield is presently offering the Infinity Basslink II with a free expansion card for only $249-or $50 less than they sell the Basslink I.

okay never mind that option- they are already sold out

Is anyone running either a Basslink I or II powered subwoofer in their Runner? I would welcome your thoughts/opinions.

I am seeking a powered subwoofer with a minimal "footprint" and ease of removal and re-installation when my cargo needs supercede that of my music. I did have a Bazooka tube once before but am ruling them out due to their flimsy connections at the tube.

I generally speaking am not interested in a separate amp and subwoofer-but I have seen some enclosures that will actually hold the amp within the dead air space for the subwoofer, and those are of potential interest to me. I am looking for some bump in the music but not to win any contests or break any nearby glass.

I would welcome any suggestions....

I haven't done a lot of research on powered subs but I do have an opinion on a separate amp and sub. Have you considered either putting an amp under your rear seat or attached to the back of your rear seat while having a custom box built to minimize the space?

I currently have two amps attached to the back of the rear seats with a custom box that covers the amps. You can remove the subs by simply removing the speaker wire. The only problem is not being able to remove the amps easily and therefore when you fold down your back seats, you have an amp in the way. I have heard of people putting an amp under the rear seat to get out of the way even more.

here is my advice. Get a q-logic custom box. I have my amp on the back of the seat, but I suppose you could put it under the seat. The box takes up the rear storage compartment, but does not take up your entire trunk space. I believe its a very nice trade.

thanks I have seen the layout with the amps on the backs of the rear seat and that does not really appeal to me. I like the under the drivers seat idea-but am hoping to simplify the wiring runs by sending it all to the cargo section, hence my desire for the powered subwoofer.

Snooks- Aren't the q logic systems over $400.? just seems too pricey-are the specs really good? efficiency over 90db?

thanks Snookster for the link up but I am not seeing any performance specs on the speaker itself.

sound efficeincy is usually measured in db, the ability of the speaker to take signal power and convert it into sound. Some of the Bazookas are over 100db-some near 103db. A lot of subwoofers are in the 60db range and some of the better ones in the low 90s.

I have the Basslink I in my 02' 4Runner. I have it located in the back right corner near the trunk door near near that tire hump. It produces good amount of bass. Its easy to take it out of the car too. Just uplug the wires and unscrew the screws that are on the leg. The only band part of the Basslink I is that its not heavy enough to not screw in the feet, so you will have 4 holes in your car if you take out the Basslink later. Hope this help you.

now installed and thumping

thanks sirs for all the comments and suggestions. I did find one on ebay and it is finally mounted in my ride.

I had the install done at Circuit City and it fits nicely behind the rear seats but in front of my doggie barrier. Used Tsunami wiring-thanks Nserpa for the recommendation-and velcro actually holds it down to the carpeting so I can easily remove it.

Still tweaking the controls at the unit itself and through my Sony head unit to get the best sound for each type of music, but overall I am real happy with it- I did not want a visible "break in and steal me" type of sub/amp setup and I think I have gotten that. Really can't even see it unless you stand right up against the tinted windows and peer inside intently.

update in 2010

Mad props to toytech76 for hooking me up with the horizontal mounting brackets for the Basslink I. It now sits flatter to the floor and gives me a lot more options to hide it and secure it without having it try to flop over.

The jury rigged bungies worked well for vertical mounting and I anticipate will work just as well now that is sits lower to the floor.

I sure wish I had jumped on the Basslink II with the expansion card though... now that was a steal...

I called Cartoys and they said they could build one just like it for 200$ and it would prob sound better.

I cant go with that cuz its only a 10" and I have a 12" so Im prob gonna build my own.

I had a Basslink I in my Camaro and I loved it. Plenty of bass. Wish I hadn't have sold it with the car 'cuz it would totally be in my 4Runner now.

Whats funny is i just went out to measure the rear part of my runner to see what would fit. I found the 4 old holes where the old basslink was mounted. I thought i had a basslink sometime ago and completely forgot it was in my runner. It died after about 3 yrs, so its been 7 yrs since i had anything in there. In my defense, my brother had the vehicle for the 4 yrs after this and during that time i completely forgot i had that basslink. anyway, ordered it and excited to get it installed next week.

I had mine upright for a couple of years and it seemed to always be in the way of the dog or any cargo I was carrying. Plus it had to be bolted down or it would flop over. Now laying flatter I have left it just bungeed in place and I can move it as needed for my doggie divider or whatever else I am carrying. Easier to disguise under my cargo blankets and so on...
