Info on '07 V8 aftermarket manifold replacement?

I followed this thread closely, but have come to realize my manifold is not the same as the '04. All I can find are thread about people "who hear a tick" etc, etc, etc. Has anyone actually done this or had it done on a V8 '05 or later (I think '05 is where the manifold change happened)? My manifold is bad and I am NOT paying the dealer do it. I would like to find an aftermarket and find a non-dealer shop to do the work (like the guy in the linked thread did). Would love to get some input and/or resources.

130,000mi on it now.

I suspect it's bad. It's been giving me the tick for about ~30,000mi and gradually getting worse. I just dropped it off at the dealer this morning to verify that it is the manifold or if it is something else. There is a small chance it's is something else, but I doubt it.

No doubt about it. It makes me want to puke! But, that's why I was so surprise to hear the '04 in the other thread only paid $225 for the install. That's 3-4 hours labor, at the most. I've never compared the engine compartments of an '04 V8 and an '07 V8, but can they be THAT different? They must be. I can't even find aftermarket manifold for the '07. I am really bummin about this.

Dealer says it's the passenger manifold. I asked, "are you sure?" They said, "even though we can't physically see a crack, yes, we're sure. We've seen it enough times to know."

It wouldn't be the first time they have been wrong, but I don't think they are on this one. The damage...~$800 for the parts, ~$700 for 5 hours labor.

Anyone know the cheapest place to buy a Toyota manifold? After, my research, I'm pretty sure an aftermarket manifold is not available. So OEM is my only option. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

only other option besides factory manifolds are headers for you check out urdusa.com if you want long tube headers for it

Try toyotapartszone dot com to see what you can get it/them for delivered. .May save you a fair bit compared to local dealer.

Then I would go to local dealer and ask for installation price only and perhaps try to negotiate that a bit. See what other shops would charge you so you know what ball park you're in.

Is this one of those situations where you should suck it up and do them both while the access is established.

For that kind of dough, I'll remain skeptical of something not seen directly.

Is it throwing codes or failing emissions? If not, is it only sound driving your decision to replace?

I would never purchase a new OEM manifold unless it was the last possible option. There are a ton of junk yards out there and when I needed one for a 2000 Tundra it was a simple online search. Perfect fit. $65!

If u do replace the manifold give me your old one so I can try to compare it to an aftermarket set and see what needs to be done to make one work and post my findings

$600 shipped is the best OEM price I have found so far. I have a service guy that saved me some cash on honda civic tranny job last year. He is doing some searching for a manifold too.

It's worth checking I guess, but i don't think the junkyards can re-sell a manifold with a catalytic converter in it. I believe they have to recycle them. That was the case when my civic had a cracked manifold. There was not a used one to be had anywhere and that was a freaking civic. So, my options are seem to be either new OEM or headers.

Had the same ticking issue for about the last 10k miles on my 07 V8 - had both manifolds cracked. Just got the fix done last week at factory toyota and ended up at $2k for parts and labor. Major bummer but I'm willing to drop the dime to make sure my yota runs forever.

Maplewood Toyota gave me an estimate of ~$800 for the parts, ~$700 for 5 hours labor. I just knew there had to be a better option. We there was. A couple weeks ago, I happened to be at another dealership (Carlson Toyota) taking a look at new Tundras on a Saturday morning. On my way out I thought I'll check with the service guys here on labor and parts for the manifold job. He quoted me about the same for parts ~$800, but he quoted only 1.9 hours. I couldn't believe it! I asked him to double check, which he did. 2 or 3 sources he has, all said 1.9 hours. Why the #*@& is another dealership quoting me 5 hours?! I didn't want any surprises, so I told him about the other dealership quote, he said, we usually can beat them, but usually not by that much. Then I asked if I could bring in the parts because I found a Toyota dealership online (toyotapart.com) that had the manifold & gaskets for $620 shipped to my door, with a no restocking fee if I needed to return it. He said, no problem. Which also, surprised me a little. So, I made the appointment, ordered the parts and remained highly skeptical that this would all work out well. I just got the truck back yesterday. Only an extra $80 for studs and breather tube gasket I didn't order. So all said and done I was out the door for about $900 parts and labor. Still not cheap, but easily $600 less than Maplewood Toyota. Carlson Toyota is my new favorite dealership. I just wanted to put this out there so folks know not to accept 4 and 5 hour quotes on labor for this job. Cheers.

Looking for a follow-up post from you on the repair. How many miles have you put on the 4runner since the repair? Did the tick ever return? I would hate to drop that much money on a repair to only have the issue come back in a year or two...

That is great info on the labor time. I am looking to do this repair at a local dealer or considering ordering parts and having either the dealer or a shop do the job.
