Info on Bar Harbor, Maine

I grew up 40 minutes from there and worked there for 7 years through high school and college.

Firstly, research into Acadia National Park and the Park Loop Rd, very nice drive. Lots of places to stop and look at, beaches, rock cliffs, waves, wildlife, etc. Also try to make it across the bar to Bar Island. Just keep an eye on the tide charts and don't get stuck over there and need the Coast Guard to rescue you.

Secondly, there is a plethora of restaurants and/or bars to try. I worked at Galyns for 5 of those years.

The other 2 years were spent working at the Bar Harbor Whale Watch. I can't remember how soon they start runs but if they're up and operating, try to get out on one of their tours.

Lots of biking/walking trails, some of which is part of the park. Check out the Carriage Roads.

Also, if you're into hiking, there's crazy amounts of trails/mountains to hike, from easy to extremely difficult.

There's some lakes and ponds to swim in, just make sure it's allowed as some are used as public water sources.

Lastly, the "Cat" ferry doesn't run over to Canada anymore. But as you can see from the above lists, LOTS of stuff to do!! Just pick up a tour book so you can at least utilize your time as you see fit. Enjoy it! Bar harbor is beautiful. Met my fiancee there.

Thanks for the quick response! My base camp is the KOA. I have a motorcycle
With me and would like to know of any scenic roads in the area - outside Acadia. Pretty well versed on the NP.

The KOA right at the entrance of the Island? If so, then try heading to the other parts of the island like Southwest Harbor, Seal Harbor, Northeast Harbor, etc. Many cool little roads and villages down that way as well. Great motorcycle area too assuming it's not too chilly! You'll love it there. I miss it.

Eat at Thurston's Lobster. I stayed at the National Park and loved it, cheap and close enough to the shore to hear waves crashing at night.

Hi Neighbor,

I'm hoping to do a similar trip a bit later in May, please drop some knowledge and let us know how it goes!

I'll be putting my bike on a hitch and maybe boondocking for my trip, weather permitting, in the back of the 4runner.

Watch your speed while motorcycling (or driving) around the island. The local constables are quite keen on enforcing speed limits in their communities.
