Info on these TRD wheels

Yes, you are correct. They were just saying that they were not available right now (that they are sold out), those virtual stock that shown that a batch is sitting in a warehouse somewhere may be port install parts that they need to build TRD Pros with; so later, they probably will be back in stock to the general public once they got more in stock.
This had happened last year when these were initially released too, then a few months later, they became "available" again. And then recently (mid March, I think), they become "unavailable". So, maybe in a few months, they will be "back in stock".

No reason for them to be cheaper than the OE Toyotas. The FNs are wider, lighter, more finishes and likely better quality. $775 shipped is a great price and I'm actually surprised they aren't closer to $899 like the countersteers.

He wasn't citing some goofy internet conspiracy theory or gossip blog. Toyota is currently offering all TRD parts---including the black version of the TRD wheels---for sale to all customers on its official website. Look it up. And you don't have to be a member of some special VIN club to get them.
Many of us have already bought these wheels through our local dealers. If people are having trouble getting them at the moment, I'm sure it's just due to a temporary inventory shortage. Toyota didn't suddenly decide that these are only going to be sold to the cool kids with TRD VINs or whatever other ridiculous theory is being floated.
You talking about the FN wheels or the TOYOTA TRD wheels?
Yeah, I get that. but it was on their own website, not a forum or a post from a guy who knows a guy, etc.

Believe me, I get it. And I'm not trying to mock your angst.
I absolutely believe that these wheels may be in short supply at the moment and that Toyota may have temporarily put them on lockdown.
But I absolutely don't believe that any temporary hold has anything to do with some Toyota plot to increase these wheels' exclusivity, or restrict them to only the TRD Pro owners, or any of the other conspiracy theories floating around.

When I purchased mine from my local Toyota dealership the parts guy told me that they use to require a VIN number in order to purchase them. So I know for a fact that at one point you DID need a VIN number, that could be the case again if and when more become available. I bought the last set of 4 they had and at the time I purchased he told me they stopped requesting the VIN but that does not mean they can't or won't do it again.
Haha well for what it's worth (maybe nothing), when I bought mine from my local dealer last year I specifically asked the parts manager if there was any sort of restriction on who they could sell these wheels to. I told him about the crazy rumors I'd heard about needing a specific VIN, etc.
He told me that was ridiculous and that there was no such restriction and never had been.
I have no idea which dealership guy was right (maybe yours, maybe mine, maybe neither). So I'd say the only thing that any of us "know for a fact" is that this situation (just like countless others) proves that there is no consistency whatsoever among the dealerships. They may be misinformed. They may be liars. Nothing would surprise me. :shrug:
I do think that the information coming straight from the horse's mouth (i.e., Toyota actually advertising the wheels for sale to the general public on its official website) carries a hell of a lot more weight than anything some random dude working at the local dealership has to say...
GUYS...I have no clue why anyone would pay for the TOYOTA version of this wheel and or waste time trying to locate a set online. FN wheels makes a better wheel set that looks identical. The wheel actually has a better offset giving the truck a better stance with no need for spacers. FNs version is also an 8 inch wide wheel! Just my two cents!

I run 305/70/17 on these wheels with no issues whatsoever! And the offset of the wheel is just perfect so I'm not rubbing my UCAs. Not sure about the FN version but as far as quality and rim depth the TRD version has no issues. I guess if you were planning on running 35's then maybe it would make a difference but most here will never be running 35's so it makes no difference. Oh and I do not have spacers either! According to the goodyear website my tires are 34.1 inches

I completely agree that there is no way to really tell who is correct. BUT thats what I was told and thats what many others have been told at one point or another so regardless of who is correct its whats been told to people including me while at my local dealership. So it was a FACT that if I was going to purchase these 3 months prior to when I did MY dealership would have required a VIN. By the way he is the same parts guy who has been helping me with all my toyota vehicles for the past 8 years so he's not some newbie to the dealership or the parts department.

There are other users who reported problems and uneven wear running 285/70/17 tires on the TRDP wheel. You are still running out of spec and not every tire shop will agree to install out of spec tires on a 7" wheel. So YMMV. The FN is cheaper, more finishes, 8" and you won't get a headache trying to get them. I see no reason to get the OE wheels with as much trouble as they come with trying to actually purchase them.
