Info on these TRD wheels

I run 305/70/17 on these wheels with no issues whatsoever! And the offset of the wheel is just perfect so I'm not rubbing my UCAs. Not sure about the FN version but as far as quality and rim depth the TRD version has no issues. I guess if you were planning on running 35's then maybe it would make a difference but most here will never be running 35's so it makes no difference. Oh and I do not have spacers either! According to the goodyear website my tires are 34.1 inches
which 305/70-17 Goodyear, exactly? the 305/70-17 BFG KM2, for example, specifies an 8"-9.5" rim width.

GUYS...I have no clue why anyone would pay for the TOYOTA version of this wheel and or waste time trying to locate a set online. FN wheels makes a better wheel set that looks identical. The wheel actually has a better offset giving the truck a better stance with no need for spacers. FNs version is also an 8 inch wide wheel! Just my two cents!

Some of us just don't like after-market wheels. (period)

To each his own.......

There are other users who reported problems and uneven wear running 285/70/17 tires on the TRDP wheel. You are still running out of spec and not every tire shop will agree to install out of spec tires on a 7" wheel. So YMMV. The FN is cheaper, more finishes, 8" and you won't get a headache trying to get them. I see no reason to get the OE wheels with as much trouble as they come with trying to actually purchase them.

I don't see the FN wheels listed anywhere on their site, and when i placed my order before this stop sale, my price was just at $670 or a hair under from Conecelli in PA ( i was picking up) but I wouldn't call them cheaper, equal maybe.

Is anyone from FN going to post some info and details up?

Goodyear MTR I have about 2900 miles on them so far including two off roading trips and not a single issue so far. They seem to be a bit quieter than my 285/70/17 duratracs to.

Per Goodyear's page for the 305/70/17 MTR:

Approved Rim Width (in.)8.0 - 9.5

Wrangler MT/R® With Kevlar® Sizes & Specs | Goodyear Tires

Sure, a tire shop might slap one on a 7" wheel, but this could be a liability for them, and result in poor wear (as others reported with 285's).

2900 miles is not quite enough to see irregular cupping or other wear issues as a result of the skinny wheel/fat tire combo IMNSHO. Once you get around 15K, drop us a line :)

Will gladly do. I usually rotate with every oil change as well. Got one coming up in the next week or so and if there is uneven wear or cupping I should definitely be able to see it with the next rotation or two. However my buddy has 315/70/17 MTR on his with the stock 7.5 inch rims and has about 25k on them with no issues. This is something I did a lot of research on before doing and have only heard from one person of the six or so I have spoke with (on the rim size/suggested rim size) who said he had issues but he also didn't rotate until 14000 miles.

Goodyear also specifies a 8"-9.5" rim width for the 305/70-17 MTR, so the 7" TRD Pro is out of spec. not that you can't do it, obviously, just that the manufacturer does, in fact, specify a wider rim for mounting that tire.

those MTRs are nice tires. i had the old style on my '93 and loved them. loud, but loved them. interesting to hear that you find the new MTR quieter than the Duratracs. how many miles were on the Duratracs you replaced? mine had ~42k when i replaced them last fall and they were insanely loud. like, full-on mud terrain loud. not necessarily indicative of what would be normal to expect, though, as i really should've rotated them more aggressively.

personally, i was all gung-ho about the TRD Pro wheels this time last year. i'm generally not super into rims, but was drooling over them since they were first revealed at SEMA on the supercharged FJ-S concept vehicle. then the 7" spec was published and i quickly soured on them. in the end, i put my 285/70 Mickey Thompson MTZs on a new set of FN Five Stars, which i really, really like: simple design; proper width and backspacing; saved a lot of unsprung weight; and are very easy to clean—and keep clean—as well.

when the stock Trail wheel is 7.5" width, designing a 7" wheel for the "Pro" seems like a real boner move by TRD to me. only seems smart to me that FNWheels is releasing its own 8" version addressing the shortcomings (some) customers perceive in the TRD version.

i'm not taking a dump on the TRD wheels, by any stretch. i think they're perfectly fine depending on your application. i'm just saying that i can understand and appreciate that there is a market for the new FN version, as well.

I agree about the 7 inches WTF TRD? However I have said in previous posts I did a lot of research and asking around before buying them and have got pretty much the same answer from everyone which is that it shouldn't be anything to worry about unless your planning on going to 35's. Three different guys at Discount tire said I might lose MAYBE 3k on the overall wear of the tread but he said he even doubted that. The same thing was told to me by the guys at the shop who did my lift one of whom just happened to be running 35's on a jeep with 7.5 inch rims. Two of my friends are also running 315/70/17 on 7.5 inch rims and said that the wear was not bad nor were they cupping. Everyones experiences and driving habits are different so I will report my findings after the next couple rotations and if they are in fact ruining my tires I will happily sell my TRD rims and go with the FN. Until then I will go with what I have researched and been told and hope it holds true. Now, about the Duratracs I had about 7500 miles on them and loved them but I decided to go with a mud terrain and wanted to go 305/70/17 so I sold my Duratracs on my local craigslist and got what I was asking for them fairly quickly so I thats how I wound up with the MTR, and for some reason they ride very quite on my runner I was pleasantly surprised actually because I definitely thought they would be a lot louder than the duratrac. It could just be me but I definitely think they are ever so slightly quieter. Some may say the opposite but thats just my experience.

Do Want! would FNWheels care to provide further details?

Guys, I don't have any affiliation with FN, vested interest and could careless what, if any wheel you purchase. I do however appreciate a vendor that has taken a cool looking design and produced an appropriate 8" wheel size. As I mentioned earlier, I couldn't wait and picked up a set of 8.5" Five Stars last year . . . very happy with the quality of the FN wheel.

Any chance you've performed a chalk test? Just curious. The reduction in noise might be because less of the tire is pressing on the road with the skinny wheels "cupping" the outer portion of the tread width. Just a thought...

I have not done a chalk test.

I have a black Trail and want a gunmetal grey wheel but I see the new dark gloss gunmetal and I'm starting to lean towards that one.
