Information..Shipping car Overseas

Does anyone has an idea how much it would cost to ship an SUV overseas?..in this case like to Central America?.

This is whats going on. I travel every year back to my country and sstay at least 3 to 4 weeks. Every time I go I rent a car(a sedan everytime and dont have enough space to take the family for a trip or something)....I have to pay also for insurance because my insurance here wont cover anything overseas. So I end up paying a lot for transportation probably like for 2weeks rental $500 + gas.

I have family members that have their vehicles but I really dont like to bother no body to take me here or there and worst..I dont like to borrow friends and family cars either at least not over there .
So I am searching for a used SUV between 99 and 2006 to send it the beggining of next year if I could... but it also depends on how much it would be the shipping cost so I could add it to my budget.... It will be either toyota(#1 option).... or nissan or mitsubishi or Kia or Honda or Hyundai or subaru or suzuki. It has to be one of this brands because over my country thats the most you will see and those has more accesibility for parts and autoshops.
So if someone has an idea or know about any company where i can get a decent price I would appreciate the help and information.

I looked into shipping a vehicle from Australia to the US when I moved here, but it was going to cost around $10,000 all up. It's probably not going to cost you that much, but it is expensive. I assume (but honestly don't know) that Central American countries are less strict in their vehicle codes and requirements, but things you might have to consider will be registration issues, emissions things, types of fuel they are supposed to run on etc.

Wouldn't it be easier for you to simply buy something when you're there?

I believe that you need to be wary of things mentioned above (registration, inspection, rules, titling, etc., etc.) - but especially fuel.

Does their fuel have lead in it? What is the octane rating? Are they running the same 'quality' gasoline? Is it watered down or mxed with kerosene? I was in El Paso back in '79 and '80 and remember how "Juarez gas" was very cheap to buy over in Mexico, but would f*ck up your catalytic converter and your car would leave a trail of blue smoke behind it.

Perhaps that has changed since then; I don't know. Just be wary of it, as you don't want a clogged cat or bad oxygen sensor caused by bad fuel.

not worth it, your truck is going to break real quick when its going to be just sitting around for 50 weeks for years. not to mention your tires will fall apart unless you have your truck on a lift. i say just pay the extra $$$ and rent a car when you go back.

Ok im on a huge debate here... I culd probably buy a car overthere..but its gonna be either a brand new one or taking the risk of overpaying for a used car

searching for used cars over there...I found these 3 to give you guys an idea how much they ask in my country for these used cars

Get the 1999 4Runner. If the owner/dealer needs the money real bad, he/she might drop the price.

I shipped my car and 18ft bass boat to and from Panama 10 years ago, shipping costs were much lower going down vs. coming back. Cost was $500 for SUV and $1200 for boat going down and $1800 coming back for just the boat.

I'm in agreement with most around here, it's probably better to step up and rent an SUV than store one for 50 weeks out of the year
