Inner Fender

CndRunner

New member
After a few years without a Runner I found a solid 2013 and am happy with it.
However, a question crops up.
The inner fenders are different in the sense that the right side one has louvres or slots in it which will allow snow etc to get at the back side of the fogs and DLR/turn signal. The left side (driver's side) does not have the slots in it.
Are they different for a reason ? I have no idea why one would have slots and the other not....
Any info greatfully received. Cheers.

Yes. The passenger side louvers are where the air intake comes in for the engine. Don't put something over them... lol. Or do - but it won't run very well :).

It really is a thought through engineering solution to have in that spot.

My 2018 is the same way. I think they all are. The washer bottle is on the right side (which makes replacing the fog light much harder). There is an additional shield behind the right fog light that is not on the left fog light to keep debris off it.

It is my understanding that it is for air flow/venting.
