Inproving performance for "city" drivers?

Hi guys,

Just got my 2004 Dorodo Gold Limited V8 the other day. The truck is pretty well equipped with the X-REAS, side air bags, JBL, sunroof, etc. I keep eyeing these performance parts. I think the super charger is way more than I want to spend and way more than I need, although I'm sure it'd be super fun to drive.

The upgrades I'm thinking about are the TRD filter, and maybe the K&N Air Charger and Borla exhaust (is there another exhaust a little cheaper?). Anyway, I'd say I'm going to do about 99.99% city driving. Actually, we're about to having a baby, so in all reality, this will be the "family car" as our other 2 cars are 2 doors. So what I'm wondering is that, are these upgrades going to be overkill for my type of driving? I'm still a guy and would still like to have a sweet sounding truck and I'd certainly take it off road if the situation was there, although I guess I never seem to run into it living in suburban Tampa.

Anyway, would like to hear your guys' thoughts.

Edit: I also saw mention of some TRD exhaust tips. Are these strictly for looks, or do they give any added performace or sound?

Borla Ehaust

Spend a little more and get better quality. When I was installing my dual Borla, at $700 I considered a Flowmaster sys. for $200 but the quality was not there. Since you've invested so much in your rig already, why not but the best out there.

You're right. I know, I don't want to skimp. If the quality isn't there, it doesn't make sense to buy something cheaper.

Let me ask you, since you see to have 3 of the 4 items I want to do. Are you happy with all 3 of them? Did the Borla make your truck really that much more noticable? I want the truck to sound deep and throaty, but I don't want to be the one the neighbor's say "here comes that 4Runner again" when they hear me down the block. People used to say that about me when I was 18 and had my Yamaha FZR600 with a Yoshimura pipe. When you had that thing at 8-10K RPM, you could litterally hear the bike almost a mile away. That's certainly a extreme example, but I don't want to have a truck that's loud and annoying, either.

Borla Sound

Aaron,

The sound is good but not that loud. Somebody on this forum posted some sound clips, you should check them out. As far as the power is concered you can really notice it. I would do the Borla, and skip the exhaust tips IMHO. Also check out the TRD filter you might like it.

Now when you say better performance do mean better MPG? I have not seen better mpg with the borla, but then again i am an aggressive driver...i suppose you should with less restrictions in the exhaust but in my case it makes me punch it more....and the sound is real nice, loud enough to know you have a V8 but not loud enough to disturb the neighbors

one option is to just get a performance shop to weld on a borla muffler for you. they are stainless and only $100 + labor.

Warranty

Does changing the muffler void the warranty?

If you think about it, a dealership is not going to replace the muffler and all that unless it rusts out in 36,000 miles or whatever the mileage is for the warranty.

Replacing the muffler will not void any other system on the truck unless while your welding it on you melt through the floor board and put a big hole in the bottom of the rig. Then warranty for that will voided. But, I think that you understand. Hope that helps.
