I know we all love our runners, my ? is my dad is about to get a new truck b/c gas is killing him in his suburban, Ive got him on the 4runner kick.. he found a 2000 with a 2.7 4cyl in it... what do you guys think of the 4cyl???? How does it compare say to a 22re as far as pickup and reliablilty?

I can't say as compared to a previous 4Runner engine, but he will notice a difference in the pickup and ride quality coming from a Suburban. 4Runners (especially pre-4th gens) tend to ride a little more stiff than a full size (read monster-size) SUV. Gas mileage will be very similar on the highway, but around town the 4 cyl 4Runner should be a bit better on gas. Is this a manual transmission or auto? Manual should be a bit better on the pickup as you can hold it in a gear longer than the automatic would let you under normal acceleration.

What will your dad be using the 4Runner for? I would hate for him to like the gas mileage of the 4cyl when he likes to pull things.

just a commuter he doesnt pull anything at all. =)

good idea for a commuter. the 3rd gens go well with the six. did not know that they made a four. other factors, good safety ratings for the 3rd gens, good visibility, and room to carry.
