Installed 17x8 Konig Six Shooters from FN Wheels

I’ll start by saying that Dustin at FN Wheels is the consummate professional and I would absolutely deal with him again in the future. I had an issue with the delivery of the wheels – Dustin went above and beyond to remedy the situation, despite the fact that the issue was completely outside of his control. I only wish other vendors were as upfront with, and as dedicated to, their clients.

On to the wheels – I couldn’t be happier!!! They’re the Konig Six Shooters in 17x8 (0 ET - 4.5BS), shod with Mickey Thompson ATZs in LT285/70R17D tires. As I’ve posted here before, I really struggled to find silver or light grey wheels with a very simple, clean design. Most of the truck wheels readily available through TireRack or DT are black or have faux-hardware/streetlocks. In the case of the Six Shooters, they’re available in dark gunmetal (as well as matte black and bronze) but I really wanted light gunmetal. Again, Dustin went above and beyond and offered to have the wheels powdercoated in light gunmetal before shipping (he charges $275 for the powdercoating which I considered very reasonable since all local powdercoaters wanted $75-90/wheel). I could also rest easy that the powdercoated wheels would ship in perfect shape.

I think the color and hue of the light gunmetal goes with the Shoreline Blue very well. The wheels are also very light at 21 pounds (confirmed on the scale at home!).

Before the wheel/tire upgrade, I had the stock TE wheels with P285/70R17 Toyo Open Country A/T’s. I love the ride and feel of the Toyo’s, but to be honest, they were pretty tame looking. The new tires really set the 4Runner apart. I've already gotten a few compliments on the wheels/tires. Although the tires are 11 pounds heavier than the Toyo’s, I’ve offset most of the weight gain with the lighter wheels (stock TE wheels weigh 28 pounds vs. the Six Shooters 21 pounds). The tires are firmer than the Toyo’s as you would expect given the load rating, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it. The M/T ATZ’s do have a bit of a hum between 35-55mph. The wind noise takes over 55mph and you no longer hear the tires. I also considered BFG A/T’s and Duratracs, but in the end, I was looking for something a little different, and I think the M/T ATZ’s hit the mark!

awesome choice! that color scheme does fit great. those six shooters were my original first choice...cost was my driving factor, so I ended up with the much less expensive look alike

Hey OP, the wheel and tire combo looks great together. I also run the ATZ's in a 285 and was thinking about these wheels, so thank you for posting up such great pics for us.
Same as you, I was looking for a tire that looked and performed great but would also set the vehicle apart from the rest. They definitely do that, hardly anyone here runs them although for the life of me I can't figure out why. I hope you find them to be every bit as good as I do; they're fantastic offroad(15psi all around), and smooth as stock on the freeway IMO(40psi front/38psi rear).
Wrt the hum, I find that kicks in a bit earlier at ~40km/h(25mph), but the same as you, I find the wind noise takes over at about 80km/hr(50mph) and the light hum from the tires is effectively inaudible from inside the cabin.

Also, the wheel color suits the body color very well; great choice there too. Congrats!

Thanks everyone for the comments. I've owned the 4Runner for 2.5 years now - still turn around for a quick glance as i walk away every time I park - maybe two glances now because of the wheels and tires!

Next project is a rack. I couldn't fully commit to spending $800 - $1,200 on the Baja Utility or Gobi Stealth, so I've been working on a franken-rack that will get me what I want without the huge price tag. I'll share details once it comes together (including pics).

Agreed, I think the MT ATZ is great option that might get overlooked. They are pricey, so I wonder if that steers people away.

Nice combination, looks good! I've driven ATZ's on various rigs for 300,000+ miles. As mentioned before a really good tire that gets overlooked a lot. They aren't mud tires (no AT really does well in mud), but they work pretty well in most other situations and are surprisingly good on the highway for E load AT tires.

I was able to get 50,000+ miles out of each set while maintaining good off-road performance. In no way are they bald or dangerous on the street at that point, just starting to lose their off-road edge. If you wanted to push 'em I wouldn't be surprised to find that you get 65,000+ miles on a set. They need to be rotated frequently or they will hum worse than a lot of AT tire designs. I rotated mine every 5,000 miles.

With a couple of hundred miles on the setup, I can now offer more specific feedback on the tires. Different from other A/Ts, including BFG AT KOs, you definitely feel the tires more due to the weight and tread. I can actually feel the tread blocks when you're starting off a stop, and you can feel the slight impact of the additional rotational inertia while accelerating. I was concerned that load range D tires would feel harsh. Maybe it's the Icon coilovers or the fact that most of the additional weight of the tires has been offset by the lighter wheels, but surprisingly the ride is very comfortable (currently at 42psi). The tires also balanced perfectly (road force balanced) and are very smooth at highway speeds.

Looking forward to the next wash so I can snap a few more pics, hopefully with better lighting!

Six shooters are offered in both sizes, 17x8 and 17x9. The Countersteer X's are offered in 17x8.

[MENTION=65825]proquip[/MENTION] is correct, but the 17x8" Six Shooter is a new fitment that we just recently added to the lineup, but you are also correct that we previously only offered the wheel in a 17x9" fitment.

The 17x8's pre-sold out before we able to officially offer them, but they will be added to our website soon. I do have a couple of sets of matte bronze in stock in 17x8".

these wheels look great proquip, i am currently considering ordering the countersteer x in graphite like the 6 shooters. i guess the opposite of what you did, i just want the updated fit of the type x. can you comment on how the wheels finish is holding up? is there a clearcoat like on the factory konigs? they put some nasty stuff on the roads up here in edmonton. :canada:

I think you'll need to reach out to [MENTION=85422]FNWheels[/MENTION] because the light gunmetal is a standard color on the Countersteer X, while on mine (Six Shooter), Dustin custom powdercoated the wheels since light gunmetal was not a standard color. I believe the Countersteer X is a painted finish from the manufacturer, and I can't really speak to what that paint process includes.

As for the powdercoat, it's still perfect. I'm in Georgia, so no road salt to contend with.
