Installed a TRD V6 exhaust on a V8

After reading a thread on here that the V6 TRD Exhaust needed slight modification to fit the V8 I went ahead and ordered one.

I wanted a TRD single side exit exhaust for the following reasons:

1. Eliminate the smell coming in the back window when down.
2. Have better clearance off road.
3. Have a little deeper/throatier sound.

The exhaust is an exact bolt up, but the pipe between the y-pipe and the muffler needs to be trimmed about 2.5 to 3 inches.

I had mine cut just behind where it bolts up to the y-pipe, and shortened up to just in front of the first hanger. Worked out great and sounds great.

On surface streets it sounds good and not too loud, on the highway while doing about 2000 to 2200 rpms (around 70mph for me) I don't even hear it over the wind noise.

I don't understand what you mean by trim. Did you have a shop cut down the pipe and re-weld the flange? Sounds nice, I think I may do it ... :bravo:

I had a shop cut the pipe down and reweld the flange. He said that it was pretty easy to fit and all the hangers lined up perfectly. It cost me $75 for the install and total time in the bay was about 45 minutes.

How does it sound at 75 w/ the cruise set? Any drone? I installed a magnaflow a while back, but the drone was unbearable. Yours sounds quieter, but still beefy, is that right or just hard to hear in the video?

I almost cannot hear it at 75. If the radio is on I don't hear it at all. My wife and mom ( who both have sensitive hearing) didn't even know I changed anything until I told them.

Sweet, maybe I'll look into it.
Did you change just the muffler and tailpipe? Or is it an entire system?
Any difference on MPG?

No, I got the entire system. MPGs are about the same, but I have been driving more aggressively since the install, once I go back to my normal driving habits I think I will see a 1 mpg increase. I will report back in a few weeks about mpg.

As of right now no increase in mileage.

Stock with the 4x4 V8 I was getting 16 to 17 in town and 19-20 on the highway driving like a granny. Currently with all of my mods and weight I am getting 13.5-14.5 town and 16.5-17 highway driving normally/ slightly spirited.

I will be adding a burtman industries violant intake to see if it helps a little. I would like to see a 1 to 1.5 mpg increase, but not sure if I will get it.

yea straight hook up and a lot of ppl have. gives the V6 a really good tone.

Huh, I didn't know that TRD didn't have a exhaust system for the V8's. Now I know. Yes, also interested if it fits V8 w/ XREAS.

Now that you've had it for 6 months, are you still happy with the exhaust? I've got a V8 4Runner and am looking to do something similar. I have been running a TRD cat-back on my Tundra V8 for 8+ years and even now I am still very happy with it.

Yes, still happy with it. Does not drone and has great sound when you get on it. With all of my mods I'm getting 14 city and 16.5 highway. Pretty good and still close to what my sticker say at 14 and 17.
