Installed Avic-Z2, now have no AM reception

Bought and installed an Avic-Z2 with BT and rear camera. System looks great and everything works EXCEPT that my radio reception is horrible. FM works fine about 60% of the time but AM doesn't work at all. No reception on any AM station.

I took it back to the installer who said that he would try to change some of the grounds and see if that fixed it. Didn't work. His other option was purchasing an external antenna and see if that worked (not happening).

Have any of you had this problem? If so, how did you fix it? Thanks for the help.

aftermarket radios tend to have pretty low-quality AM reception.

Yes you can re-ground the headunit and such, but it wont do much IMO. Try it, sometimes it will fix it, but dont give your hopes up.

AM is one of those things that radio manf. just are not focusing on...makes sense in a way (the market for it is obv limited) and with radios having more and more and more features packed into them, something ends up getting pushed aside.

The Z2 is an incredible unit, with a ton of great features. Ive installed plenty, and i would put one in my own vehicle.

Whatever the reason is you want AM, there is a high-quality digital solution out there for you. Satellite radio, ipods, CD's, etc. Sure you have to buy some hardware and mayb a service but you will be getting what you wanted, and crystal clear.
