Installed LED running board lights

I got the idea from this forum (LV4R). They are from superbrightleds.com. The pics don't give any justice of what it looks like at night. It lights up the running boards, curb, and some of the 4runner. I have the white leds, but they do have a slight blue tint to them. This is really a install well worth $60 dollars and a 1/2 days time to install.

Was going to get some LED lights for interior illumination, had not thought of LEDs for the running boards. Maybe a pic while it's dark would should the illumination better than pic #2?

I took the pics at night, but i guess I need to find out how to take the flash of the digital camera. I will try new pics soon.

You're right -- the flash is definitely preventing the pics from showing the results of your work. I looked under the running boards tonight, and cutting the hole in each end cap is probably the hardest part of the job.

No cutting a hole, the led light mounts with 2 screws. You do need to drill a hole in the center to pass the wires.

I will take a new pic tonight with the flash off.

It will be good for a follow-up, too, after you've been through a couple of rains. If the LEDs are expose, then it will be interesting to see if they get dirty enough to affect their performance.

I tried a couple of quick pics with the flash off. It gives a better idear of how it will look, but to me it does no justice for what it looks like it person at night. It has rained a few times since the install and I wash it every weekend, so far so good.

Where did you connect your power source?
I just installed my LED Illumination light yesterday and I connected it to the ignition wiring. My lights do not illuminate the boards but the underside of the car instead, hence it's a PUDDLE LIGHT.
Note: There was a thread here that had the instructions for installing the running boards and included wiring diagrams for running board lights. By wiring the lights to the ignition it gives it that OEM function/look.

I'll post a pic when the boss return with the camera on Wednesday.

I don't understand why it illuminates the ground and not the running boards and the bottom of the 4runner. Maby its the area you mounted the lights, that is diff. from the location I mounted mine. Or mabey the led lights you are using are not the same as the ones I have (superbrightleds.com). Yes, i did wire mines to the ignition wires pin. 2 and pin 6, so it works with the keyless entry like a OEM. Like I said I love the way it looks, I have done many mods to my 4runner and my wife loves this install the most.

I mounted the LEDs under the car. There were times when I parked right on to a puddle or on an uneven surface in the dark that is why I wanted the underside illuminated. Also the other reason why I installed it under the car was I did not need the running boards illuminated, this is done by the lights on the doors (when you open the doors). But, I do like how yours look.

Thanks for posting. Sounds like you're saying that the two LEDs light up the entire running board and that rain doesn't cause them to be useless.

Thanks for the complements guys, the best thing about it is its a very cheap install. The total cost with the lights, wires, screws, electrical tape, and silicone was about $70 at the most.

Which lights did you install -- 4 or 6 LED?

i'm not sure if anyone asked this yet but does it light up the whole time or when you open the door or what? i've been planning this for awhile but i want it to turn on when i open the door. just didn't know where i should wire it to. i've had several projects with LEDs but wasn't sure how to power it up. thanks.
