just wanted to confirm for those w/interest that the ipod adapter plugs right into the base stereo (as in bottom of the line!) on my 05.
Thanks to Rando for the excellent howto on removing the headunit. I hate to scratch something cause its the first time i'm figuring it out and your pics / editorial advice made it easy.

Will this work on aftermark headunits? I have an Alpine CDA-7897 and am not sure if the Alpine iPod will work with it or not since it is a year old or so...seems like the interface works with the new alpine models. so thats why i wanted to see if I could use the USA Spec instead...do all you need is changer controls on the headunit?

Thanks for starting this thread! I just installed the PA10-TOY today, I have the JBL stereo with the 6 disc changer too. Does your ipod stay on when you turn off your t4r? Mine does,

I think the ipod turns on and off at inconvenient times no matter what equipment u use. Whenever i plug the ipod charger in it turns on when all i want it todo is charge as fast as possible which would be when off.

i just installed the usa-spec ipod interface on memorial day. it was a breeze with the great instructions on this site. no casualties tearing apart the dash. i wish i could have said that when i took apart the dash in my 96 prelude! the interface works great so far, i just have to remember to turn off the ipod when i get out of the car. i've left it on twice now. if you get this unit make sure you move the tabs if you plan on using the extra set of rca inputs. i forgot to do so and had to take apart the dash twice, not that it was hard but just annoying. out for now.

I had my USA-SPEC installed and used the auxillary for my Sirius Unit...It's awesome!

I'm in the process of buying a sienna (i realize not as cool as a 4Runner, but I need the storage space ;-), which also has the JBL Synthesis 6 cd changer. I assume it's the same puppy.
But.... the USSpec site says specifically not compatible with stereo's witch include 'CDC', and when I chatted with Crutchfield, they had the same concern. The issue, I suppose is whether there a auxiliary port to which to connect the iPod adapter, if the changer is in the dash?
But, is the changer actually in the dash (head unit I believe it's called around here), or is the slot for a single cd, and the changer is in trunk or elsewhere (in which case, no problem, as there will be a port then)?
Sorry if this is naive, but I don't actually own the car yet, and I want to know if I'll be for sure able to integrate an ipod when I get it.

Never mind (besides the fact that the last post on this thead before mine was 9 months ago, so probably no-one's listening), a toyota dealer I spoke with just explained that though there's an internal cd changer, there is ALSO a port to hook in an external additional changer, or ipod adapter.
