I have a trip coming up to Killington VT. about 600 miles round trip. So in preperation. I needed to have a full size 33" spare. Didnt want to spend a ton of moola, since this MOD was for this trip anyways. Locally i dont need to worry about it. platinum AAA 200 mile towing LoL.

So stock stealies from a 3rd gen 16" Got a used 285/75/16 for free from a friend. worn down they the same size as my 285/65/18 win win for me!

Plastic dipped it in flat black while i was at it. looks nice

Box came in with a hole in it, so hardware fell out during transit. called amazon customer service. explained to the rep i needed this item to go on my trip. and i will pick up the missing hardware from lowes or home depot. response from amazon rep was i'll give you a 30% refund. Told her she was really generous and thanked her. told her it cant cost more than $5 for the parts and that would be fine. She said, "sir, i want you to be completly satisfied." i thanked her and told her i was!

Net cost was $59!!! cant beat that, btw i had hardware at my shop so it was no sweat off my back to get this on.

Honestly, who does this? Me lol. I dont want the tire blocking access to the rear hatch on my trip. since i have a choice on mounting. it went to the front. it does make the truck feel wierd when it moves. hey its not like i dont know its there!

Someone made a comment that i'm gearing up for zombie apocalypse LoL

good point, duly noted and good point. Should be ok since i have heading north and it will be getting colder and colder and colder and colder. todays high in Philadelphia 73, where we going, its going to be 37 LoL

must also note that, you cant open the hood without removing the tire. Minor inconvenience for the convenience

Was thinking the same thing. Why not just mount in on the rear and avoid any air flow issues.

This is a non-folding tire carrier. Steve probably has the rear full of gear fir vacation. If he wants to access the hatch he would have to remove the whole unit. Just a pain in the ass if you need rear hatch access. That is why CBI have a folding option.

it would work on any 2" hitch. (so long as you have the clearance to mount) and don't mind pulling it on and off each time to gain access thru the rear hatch... (which is why he mounted it in the front he said a few posts up...)

Correct, trunk full of stuff. Looks cooler on the front lol. I also bought a hitch Mount that allows this to tilt. That's a mod I am going to do when I get back from this trip. So total cost will be $80 + $30 for the hitch tilt Mount=$110 gross price. It will net cost me $89 since Amazon have new a 30% refund for missing hardware cheapest tilting spare tire carrier out there!

I'm running a 285/70/17 duratrac with 50% tread left. Just make sure it clears the panhard bar. I also have the V8 rear hitch...just gotta stuff it up there against it!

Just another option but I'll give you 2 points for originality! Now you can play bumper cars haha

I like it. A lot of our work trucks have the spare mounted up front like that and they don't have issues with heat, although the highest temperatures that they see are only in the mid 80's.

Have you tried airing down the spare? The diameter shrinks down to some extent and maybe just enough for you to clear whatever it's hitting...

If you end up getting the spare to fit in underneath, I know what you can put on the front mounted spare tire carrier for your road trip.

it supposed to have hardware come with the mount. unfortunatly mine did not. lost in shipping(fell out of the box)

i used 12 x 1.5 acorn spline drive nuts just like the ones i use on my wheels. uses same lug nut removal tool. also used a 12 x 1.5mm bolt to secure it to the hitch mount.
