Installed Scion HU. Difference is unbelievable.

So for all of you who like me, enjoy a factory "look" on your vehicle, I can know say that this move was a slam dunk.

Yesterday I installed a single-disc Scion HU on my '04 4Runner and the sound has improved drastically.

Gone is the muddled base, poor midrange sound that violated my cabin. No longer do I have to overcompensate with high treble to make the music bearable. This isn't the best HU can buy by any means. But at $100, I've got a great stereo that plays and looks the part. You really don't sense that it is out place, as it fits perfectly into the existing STANDARD stock HU opening.

I've set the Scion HU to "Feel" mode. I found the base so heavy that I've left the setting at 0 with a treble of 4 or 5. In fact, this HU has made the stock speakers very respectable so I won't have to replace them anytime soon.

For those of you wondering...stop. Do it. You will be happy.

How about some pictures?
Can you still use the seering wheel controls?
Did you get the single or 6 disk changer?

I did the same thing yesterday! I LOVE the way the Scion head unit sounds, the difference is unbelievable. I'll try to take some pics some time soon, but it really does look factory, and because it is the single disc, the backlight matches perfect with the rest of the 4Runner

Okay! I am convinced and excited. Thanks to all who posted the great news (I already changed the speakers and was upset that it didn't help). I am looking for one now. Derek, when you taped the small antennae plug, does both the AM and FM work fine? thanks! Randy

yep, the AM and FM work fine for me, no loss in reception whatsoever so don't worry :D

sorry for not responding sooner. Been busy driving around so I can listen to the new stereo. The thing works beautifully and I am really thinking about holding off on the speakers for now. The sound is pretty good with the stocks and I don't even feel the need for a subwoofer. In fact, I have left my bass setting on 0 after sampling different types of music because the bass is actually pretty good. Not bad for a $100 upgrade.

On a side note, I'm going to start a new thread regarding the FM modulator I installed this morning. For anyone with a portable MP3 player (i have an iPod), this worked pretty good for me...but there are a couple things to look out for. Look for my post if you're interested. I'll submit it in a few minutes.

Remembered when I did mine last December. Made a world of difference, still loving it everyday. Plus you get a cool mp3 player built in...
