I want to install a Yakima rack on my 94 T4R. There is no factory rack but there is a sun roof. Yakima Q towers attach above the front and back doors for a spread of 34". I am a river rat and want to carry 19 ft. tandem canoes. What I want to do is spread the bars farther apart. Yakima offers tracks that can be permanently mounted to the roof by drilling and using a "Star" nut. Works like a toggle bolt or molly bolt in dry wall. This will save from having to take down the headliner. The tracks are 42 inches long. Too long. I have no problem shortening the aluminum tracks, but I wonder what is under the roof. I wonder how the sunroof mechanism works. I figure the sunroof ,at least, needs a space its size to retract into. Roughly two feet. Is there an arm/motor/wiring/gnome in the area behind where the sunroof would retract into and the back of the truck? Keep in mind the tracks need the flat surface, no farther back than where it starts to fall off, or wider than the bend in the roof above the rear-side windows. Imagine where you would put these tracks to support towers and a cross bar. I figure the tracks could be as long as 20-24 inches. Where is the wiring for the brake light/wiper/washer that are above the rear window?
