Installing aftermarket Receiver in 2004 4Runner

I have a 2004 4Runner Limited with JBL/RDS receiver. I want to replace the OEM receiver with one that I can play music via Bluetooth from my Android phone and do hands free call and answer call on the phone. I would also like it to be able to use the phone's GPS navigation via Google Maps or some app that the receiver mfr makes. Now I put my Samsung Galaxy S9+ in a holder on the dash and sort of blocks my vision through the windshield and it would nice to see the map on the screen of the receiver.

I chatted with Crutchfield and they recommended this one:

I don't need/want DVD so maybe will get another model but this one is supposed to be compatible.

I would get the more expensive one to retain the functions shown.

But there is a warning at the second link which says "A receiver with a fold-down face is not recommended for your vehicle." Does anyone know if this is actually true? I have seen comments on other Toyota forums which says it isn't a problem but some that say when it folds down it hits some part of the dash. I'm not even sure why I would want to fold it down.

I would like to be able to remove this and put the OEM unit back as I will probably get a Tundra in a couple of years and would like to move the deck to that vehicle.

What are your thoughts on ease of install of this or similar receiver? Is there a different one that is better/cheaper/easier? I would like to retain the ability to play a CD but don't care about DVD.

Hello Don. i gutted my entire system this past summer in my 2004 Limited. Everything but the amps (found some smoking deals on offer up app) purchased from Crutchfield, customer service 2nd to none. My head unit is A Kenwood model # DDX9703S. At the time I paid $500.00 for it. I purchased this unit because it has both android auto n apple carplay. I have a Samsung Galaxy n my GF has an IPhone This always you to run Google maps n waze on the screen when the phone is plugged in. I bought a usb cord and ran it through the middle console, the cord I bought always for use of both phones due to adapter. Steering wheel functions all work properly. Even though I haven't purchased a CD since the 2001, it does play cds and I have no issues when I open the CD slot. I installed everything myself with a couple of calls to Crutchfield for some much needed tech support, they were very helpful and talked me thru any issues I had. this was my 1st stereo install. Hope this helps!!
