Installing lift this weekend...removing xreas question.

I finally bit the bullet and purchased a complete lift from Toytec with our discount. It's the pre-assembled 5100's to toytec coils in the front, with Billsteins and coils in the rear. I've been having nightmares about having my 4runnner on 4 jack stands to "properly" remove the old shocks (not stable). If I plan on never going back to this system, can I not just, let's say, remove the fronts and collect excess hydraulic in a bucket or a pile of rags? I can't imagine their is a gallon of fluid that is going to gush out and who cares; I will never go back with this system; in fact, I'll toss these shocks out in the recycle bin. Anybody have experience removing these things this way?

Put the jack stands under the frame, not the axles or lca.

As far as the front removal and mess, sounds like you have it under control, probably the way I would do it.

when i took off my XREAS system i unbolted the lower rear shock bolts and popped the shocks off so they will fully droop. Then i jacked the front up, unbolted at the quick release for minimal mess. Then i removed the rear shocks while unhooking the quick disconnect again for minimal mess. Once all shocks were removed i removed the system from the frame. Was very easy this way and made zero mess.

When I first removed mine way back, I unbolted at the shocks and not the proper disconnect joints... they squirt a bit as the system is under pressure, so doubt a bucket would work. Not a LOT, but still makes a bit of a mess. If you can get all four in the air and the shocks are drooping and you disconnect at the proper joints vs. the shocks themselves, you'll have minimal, if any, fluid spills. Just follow the line from the shocks to the disconnect points.

I just unhooked mine and yanked 'em out. Didn't jack up anything. Only a few ounces of fluid came out. They are now in the landfill and I haven't missed them once.

Removing X-REAS really is just as simple as jacking up your truck, placing it on some stands (using frame rails), then removing shocks... No electronics or mess..:rockon:
