Installing luggage roof rack crossbars

How do you get the end caps off. I hear its tricky and easy to break. My 4Runner came in without the crossbars.

I used a straight slot screwdriver with some tape covering the end (to prevent scratches) and gently pried them off. If you look at the caps from underneath you should be able to find a spot to slide the screwdriver in and then pry gently.

As you do the above, PULL the top of the cap toward you firmly. This will help the lugs release and reduce the chances of cracking the cap. After they release just rotate the top of the cap away from you and push it gently. This really helps the unlatching and release.
