installing new led headlights in 1990 4runner

hey guys, i just got a set of the truck lite 5x7 led head lights and was wondering if anyone has put them in their 1990 4runner yet? trying to figure out the best way to do it or how difficult its going to be and how much, if any of the front grill needs to be dissassembled?

Could honestly be wrong as I've never removed my headlights, but I figure some advice is better than none. As far as I can tell you do need to remove the grill to remove the lights. I tried messing with mine one time until I realized that there didn't seem to be any way to be able to remove them without pulling the grill as well. If there is a way to do it without removing the grill I can;t imagine it being easy to work around it. Hope this helps

thanks man, that's kind of the way it looked to me too. I'm shocked no one has done this by now though honestly. hopefully they'll fit if i can figure it out. as far i know i thought basically any 5x7 would go in the space the stockers are in.

It should, problem is the way the lights are held in there that makes it so you have to remove the grill

Yeah, remove the grille for sure, and then there's basically a ring around the light, that unscrews and the whole part comes loose. Then you just have the harness to disconnect. It's really not hard.

where do you start when taking apart the grill? seems like its in multiple pieces and I'm kind of afraid to just start pulling stuff apart without knowing where to start or what the heck I'm doing and don't want to break anything. only reason is the truck is in perfect condition and never been wrecked.

and do you have to keep any pieces from the original lights. it looked to me like theres maybe a metal frame thats holding the original lights in place. or maybe sandwiching them in there. seems like it would have to because the truck lites are just a housing and have no hardware or anything. i wasnt sure if the metal frame is a permanent part of the car/grille or part of the lights themselves.

Where'd you get that bumper??

first you will have to take off your bumper/grill guard. (there isnt enough room to pull out the grill with it on there)
then corner lights,
then open hood remove all the top clips & screw + bottom clips & screw that hold in the grill.

no way, seriously? that grill guard isn't really connected to anything other than underneath and and the very outside of the chrome corner bumpers for stability.

thanks, i didn't think the grill guard would be an issue. its not touching any part of the grill. and i saw the clips on the top edge of the grill pieces, but i wasnt sure if those are the sole pieces that disconnect everything or if theres a bunch of screw/bolts not visible?

there are just as many across the bottom of the grill (maybe 1 less) was back in july when I had my second gen apart.

you could try to get the grill off without removing the guard.... (mine had roughly 1" & that just wasnt enough room to get the grill off without damaging anything)

I have the center part, but not the tubes that go around the lights. Mine is chrome.

I'm still trying to figure out if i want to make changes or keep everything completely stock. ill try to keep you posted if, or when i do anything...or pm me in the future to remind me.

Do the removal once, install a good unit in place of the standard H6054 sealed beams, such as the Hella housing, then drop in H4 led bulbs.

There's a TON of LED H6054 lamps, but I think they are all just friggin' ugly as hell, like these:
